Hello. I'm new to this site and have joined to get an educated idea of what most people are getting as far as Mileage out of there Turbos. I have a 2000 model F-250 7.3 since new. NO Injector, Turbo, or Trans Problems in the Entire 222,000 miles that I have Put on it. I also believe in Preventive maintenance before something goes out leaving me on the side of the road. People are telling me its uncommon for a Turbo to last that long. 222,000 miles. What are others opinion here on this forum. Am I at the point where my Turbo is lucky to go out due to the high mileage. Am I pushing it? there no smoke and comes on about 1800 RPM. In your opinion should I replace? Like I said Id rather replace than try and get all I can until it goes out on the Highway somewhere in the Country. Is anyone on here getting that out of there 7.0 Turbo. I believe its the GTP 38 or the "BIG ONE" some call it.

Correct. Wastegated garret 38.
Don't know who told you that, but you may need new friends. Lol
It sort of depends. If filtration was kept up with, should be fine for awhile longer.

i have an 88 with banks unit on it with 495,000 miles on it.
at the old job we had over 20 99 to 03 7.3 powered superdutys that all had over 600,000 miles on them, and they all had their original turbos.
as long as the air filters are kept clean, the turbo should outlast the engine.

Agreed. There's no reason to believe a turbo should quit based on milage alone. However, they spin so fast that a lack of oil will take it out in a hurry, same with dirty oil. Especially with bushing turbos. If a turbo is starved of oil while spinning at 100k, you can kiss it goodbye. But if the turbo is starved of oil you probably have bigger problems to worry about anyway.

Having said that, probably 3/4 of the turbos I've seen have radial play outside of spec and work just fine, but I've never seen a turbo have axial play and work just fine. I really don't have an explanation for this other than the axial play is incidental. Perhaps It was just a symptom of a larger problem. Don't really know.

I rebuilt my turbo at 215k and it looked brand new. If your really worried about it. You can do the same. It's around $75 for the parts.
