alright will somebody please explain to me the difference between generic tuning and custom tuning. i had a ts it was okay now i have matts tunes and its night and day difference between the 2 but what makes them different how many ways can you tune a 7.3.

also what is custom tuning? everybody throws the words custom tuning around but there is no way that every tune these tuners put out if different then the next so why is it called custom they are better tunes but why are the called custom tunes

lastly what makes bad tuning bad and good tuning good?

The way the tuner want to set up their maps. There are so many things to change, pulse with, timing, ect. Also I know when we tune a truck on the dyno we will use their info and mods to apply to a similar set up.

This limits the number of parameters and tables that are modified, because many different PCM tables have variances or are not compatible with other PCM versions or families. So in the end, there isn't as much fine tuning that goes into the programming. In addition, most generic tunes are rarely updated or changed over time.

Custom tunes are tunes that are written for each specific PCM code. Typically more tables are modified and fine tuned, and you get a smoother driving truck. However, that's always subject to the tastes and driving style of the truck owner. All custom tunes have their ups and downs, and there's no such thing as the perfect tune. Most people, such as yourself, can see the difference when more time and effort is placed on creating a high quality tune for your truck. The tuners who develop these custom tunes are constantly hard at work to improve their products and make changes based on customer requests and/or to adapt to knew products or technology.

'Custom' is such a broad word...Could be 1 thing changed, could be 100.

There really is more like 5 or so dif levels of tuning.
There is basic broad multi year generic tunes. Banks. Bully dog etc...
There are semi generic. Kinda narowed down to a few pcm tunes. (Ts base chip)
Semi custum..you probably have intake exhaust. Tunes (most tuners like di.dp,swamps beans,gearhead php bts etc)
Custom tunes..you chnged your turbo injectors added big oil etc...(same folks as above)
Live tuning.....true custom, put you truck on a dyno so it can be all it can be tunes.

In addition, the captions might not be correct. I didn't pay any attention to what tune became whatever number.....I think that the stock one is listed as custom but it doesn't matter. As long as you can see a difference in this part of the binary, it's all that matters.

Good tunes make power and keep the rods inside the engine
Bad tunes don't make power and the rods relocate to the outside of the block.

The best tunes seem to come from tuners who LISTEN to their customers and also are not hesitant to share certain info with other tuners in reguards to bad/ improper tunes.
