Hey everyone. As some of you may already know, we have a rather large update to release this month. Matt and I have been talking tonight, and we felt it necessary to make a post regarding this update before we actually release it to the public. The rest of this post is Matt's....

We originally had our latest tuning database update scheduled for release this afternoon, but due to damaging some electronics used for testing over the weekend, we will need to postpone release until later into the week to get the new hardware in and the last parts of the update fully tested.

In light of this, I thought I'd use the next few days to give a more detailed description of the changes and updates to the calibrations we will be implementing, and get some input and consensus from our users on any other changes you guys would like to see. Our current update includes the following---

-Shift changes to all 250HP tunes (milder at part throttle and enhanced converter lock)
-Shift changes to all 275HP tunes (milder at part throttle and enhanced converter lock)
-Changes to all HP levels to correct late lock-up issues for 2010 and earlier trucks with 3.55 ratio gearing
-Addition of 300HP tuning for Job 1 trucks
-Correction for customers seeing periodic cold weather part throttle surging with 275HP tunes

Another update will shortly follow the one mentioned above to include---
-Updates to both engine and transmission files for ALL Spartan TCM calibrations
-Engine calibration changes to 250, 275, and 310HP files to address periodic rolling idle

Any input from our customers on any issues will be monitored closely, so feel free to throw it in here. Even if it isn't a technical problem and is just something you'd like to see (tuning related) post as you'd like.

Thanks,

Spartan Diesel Technologies

updates have always been free its just new tunes you have to pay for

sucks that you have to update to get these tunes. i'm not losing my KEM 345 but i would love to have a 250 tune with an early lock up

350 Tune for manual Job 1 Trucks

Sensor delete or Delete pipe with bungs for sensors for Job 1 trucks with a manual. V2 software. Tired of tying my sensors up all the time

How is the update done?? Does it have to be sent away? I cant wait i am excited!!!!:D

I have a manual truck and notice that if I set the cruise in the 250 tune, it bucks when trying to maintain a constant speed. I just did a 5000 mile road trip in the 210 because I couldn't use cruise control in the 250 tune.

I ordered speed ohmmeter tunes from Mick on January 7th and have an email from him telling me that he has already given the files to Matt to be written on that same date. Mick said I would have them in a week. I haven't received them yet and would like to know what's up? I should mention that I haven't been charged for the ordered tunes as far as I know but I think a little better communication would be helpful.

I am please with the shifting of the 300 tune that I run daily and like everything about the way it works on my truck.

I have a question; Scenario I am running the 300hp tune and the DD became inoperable or stolen etc, and I had to buy another one how would I tell the new DD what tune I am running to be able to change tunes? If I reloaded the stock tune and am running the DPF delete what would I do?

Thanks for giving us the opportunity to ask questions and express concerns.
Stan

I am NO expert but the tunes are all on a SD card. I have 2 back up SD cards one in the truck and one at home, but i believe if the DD was stolen and you bought a new DD you can use the back up SD card and plug it in the the new DD and you would have your tunes back???? Maybe that is the way i understand it not sure if this helps or clears thinks up for you??

The V2 updates biggest feature was the end of the need for the exhaust sensors to be in the delete pipe. It was a software update that E-Motion released for the DashDAQ. Spartan did not create this software. I have a thread on the V2 software back when it released and it explains the update. Some chose to update and others chose not to. If you choose not to update, it doesn't affect us. All the updates are free. You either take advantage of them, or you don't. Simple as that.

Damnit Jeff i just went and searched for your post and copied it.. Well o well here it is.. Original Update posted by Jeff Dodd himself.. LOL

Hey everyone,

As some of you know, E-Motion updated the software for the DashDAQ a few weeks ago. All of the new tuning files on the website are for V2 software, which means that without it you cannot use those files. All new tuners already come equipped with the V2 software. All old tuners can be updated to the software by sending in the necessary information to tech@spartandieseltech.com.

Perks of the new software:

1. All exhaust sensors are shut off, which means that if you break a sensor you will not have to worry about a no crank situation. Also, all new tuners bought with a delete pipe will come with a bungless delete pipe.

2. There is also a 300 tune available with all Level 3 tier licenses. This tune is a much more tame version of the "mild" 310 tune, which also happens to be the tune the 300 tune replaced. So far we have gotten excellent feedback from those who have ran the 300 tune.

What must be done to update to the new V2 software:

1. Name

2. DashDAQ serial #

3. Vin #, strategy code, and original stock file

4. Highest hp tune that you have available (If you purchased your tunes from
anyone other than Spartan please let us know. We have to verify all the
info before we can send out the license and we do not have access to your
info if you purchased it from one of our dealers).

5. If you DashDAQ is a multi-licensed unit(tuning more than one truck) please
be sure to let us know. We will have to remake the tunes for all trucks
that are tuned, so please include your VIN @ for all vehicles.

6. If you have custom tunes, the 350 tune, EGR delete tunes, etc., please send the tune(s) with the email.

7. If you purchased your tuner from anyone other than Spartan then you will
need to download the Off-Road Tuning Disclaimer from our home page. Fill
it out and fax to us at 828-692-9968.

**Email this information to tech@spartandieseltech.com**

If you have any questions, let me know!

Thank you,

Jeff@Spartan

Jeff,
Do you have anymore info on when we might expect to see this tune update? More of a specific day then just "when we feel its ready." If you dont know thats not a big deal Im just anxious. I would love to stop checking the forums 10 times a day hoping its gonna say update available.
Anyway thanks again for all you and Spartan do. Cant wait to load the new tunes.

Dude you guys are missing the big picture here. All the #### above is minor! We need a level of tuning for full EGR Deletes! With the cruise turned on. The reason I dont push Spartan any more is because I can not get custom tuning! That is what made Spartan special. If you can not find the time to custom tune you are just another box tuner. The best box tunes no doubt but still a box tuner.

sorry but on behalf of Powerstroke nation I say Matt and Mike need to work out there differences because if Spartan does not have the time to custom tune then you need to let Mike continue to custom tune through the Dash Daq or I will have to sell a tuner that a custom tuner can use.

The Dash Daq and its software is the best Mike has admitted that but at the end of the day the tuning is more important than the gauge screen. I am lucky to have an old Dash Daq that Mike can tune through but if I was buying a new tuner today it would half to be SCT or H&S because I require more than box tuning. I understand the business concept 90% off the market box tuning is enough but its us 10% that drives the market to the 90%

thats exactly why i had to go buy an sct...i want to be able to have custom tunes wrote once the big build starts....if anyone asks me what tuner to buy..it used to be a dashdaq...not anymore, go see Eric or Mike

when i bought it i was under the impression that Matt would do custom tuning...if i would of known it was a "sorry were making enough money off of just selling the tunes we already have made"...i would of NEVER bought it...

I am a Spartan customer who has been looking for the 3.55 fixes but bought Kem because I have been waiting so long. Now you are forcing me to update my Spartan to get the fixes I need and lose my Kem. I don't like being put in this situation. Please come up with a way that I can have both with updates and fixes. I paid both of you and want both of your tunes.

From within just weeks of "KEM" leaving our company, I made our stance crystal clear on KEM tunes with the DashDAQ. It was posted on our forums, and I made numerous posts responding to questions clearly stating that WE DIDN'T SUPPORT KEM TUNES, and it was at the customers risk.

KEM offers what he has for the DashDAQ as a ROGUE EMPLOYEE. Simple as that. He took something he was no longer authorized to use, used it anyways, and sold the product to make a gain from it. We never authorized it, we never supported it, we never recommended it, and we finally put a stop to it- yet some people seem to think we have an obligation to make it work? What was taken for KEM to even market it was a STOLEN PRODUCT, and I have the paperwork from E-Motion, the software company who programs our firmware for DashDAQ, to prove it.

How the hell is that a gray area? How the hell can anyone expect me to cover their losses with KEM performance when I stated from the start that we DIDN'T support it? If you can come here to post, the information stating exactly that was available at any time, as it was a fairly long debate at the time that I had to rehash who knows how many times. I'd like to know how many other business owners out there would let someone walk off with something of theirs, make money off of it, and the original owner just throw their hands up and say "oh well"?

Your post is also a good example of the same need for an update that we've been hearing, and hence the reason I've been spending my time FIXING those mentioned issues.

WoodBoy seems to be the only one with a grasp of what I'm saying concerning custom tuning. I never said I have a plan of stopping custom tuning entirely; I simply said that the updates for strategy flash were higher on the priority list. The custom tuning is and has always been something I did in my spare time, which there simply isn't as much of as there was. I still have a stack of tune requests here which I do work on as I can. When some of the other work is out of the way, I'll continue to spend more time on it. Pretty simple and once again I fail to see the "gray" area in that.

Let me clear up a bit of this nonsense concerning the verbage between "box", "canned", "custom" and this other bull#### that gets twisted and misconstrued.

Our original tuners- just like an SCT tuner for which someone made a custom tune- contained a set of hand-made files. Myself or someone else takes the engine file, the transmission file, VIN, and some other information and puts it into a program that exports the .enc file that was originally used. When we went to "strategy" flashing, it does not work in the typical manner of what some others call a strategy flash file. It is still a COMPLETE engine and COMPLETE transmission file, just as the same initial modified files we would start with by hand. Instead of someone sending us the VIN and strategy #'s, the tuner reads that data upon starting the flash and selects the proper file from the database, just as we do it by hand. It is nothing more than a computer automated version of precisely what we do when we hand-make a file. There is no difference in the process or the end-result except my fingers on the keys.

The only reason we even went to an automated firmware was the shear numbers of tuners being shipped. It simply wasn't practical to make them by hand and deliver them via email any longer.

If you really want to cut down to the proper wording, not a damn thing that comes out of any standard H&S, KEM, Spartan, or any other tuner is truly "custom" in the sense that every file is different. There are a number of different truck configurations and a number of different files corresponding to each. When 95% of the tunes are going into identically equipped stock truck, any good calibrator knows that variation causes problems and inconsistencies from customer to customer.

The only time a true "custom" tune is ever implemented is when you have a heavily modified truck, with such as aftermarket turbos, larger nozzles and fuel rails, pumps, ect.

Concerning the EGR delete issues, as Jeff pointed out, EGR delete files are already contained within a level 3 license. I think there was one revision where I had pulled them out to make changes and had forgotten to turn it back on; so if you have a level 3 and they are missing its just an update. I'll take another look at all of this as we publish the upcoming update.

What's wrong is this was marketed as a custom tuner...and it doesn't do that...if you would of said off the bat...I'm going to create x number of tunes and.not tweak them to an individuals liking...then there wouldn't be all these people bitchin...you specifically stated on your website that custom tuning was available...good luck getting that done if.you.need it

#47 ·
No thats called box tuning.. Thats just like ford selling F250 Lariats, all of them are upgrades from xl or xlt, but too many are sold to be customs.. Once you take that box tune and just add one simple thing thats different from the rest such as full egr delete, it becomes custom
