I'm a newbie and trying to absorb all of this endless and very informative information. I have a newly aquired 04' ( early ) F-250 I purchased from a friend of mine. It's been EGR deleted, new Ford oil cooler, has not been studded, and all services done and all fluids are clean and no leaks anywhere... It runs great and I am very happy with the truck. I am planning to do the 4" exaust w/ cat deletes and a muffler of of some kind.., Not wanting it too loud. The truck is stock looking 2WD factory wheels/tires sizes.
I am wanting to do what I can to enhance performance for towing. I have been reading and am leaning to the SCT X4 7015 for tuning and the Edge CTS2 for monitoring.... In the SCT information I am understanding that in their canned tunes that come with it, the Tow tunes are transmission only.. Is that correct ?? And if so, how are you getting increased HP and Torque from a trans tune without tuning the PCM or FICM ??? I understand shift points and such but I still am not connectiong the dots... The trailer is question is 4500-8000 lbs.. Not a huge load by any means... I just want a nice pull on the interstate at 70mph. Any and all input is very much appreciated !!!

Thanks !!!

I can't help you with SCT tunes, but I can tell you my 6.0, before I put any tunes on it, would run all day long at highway speeds pulling 8k behind her without even thinking about it. Now, having said that, yes, a tune will definitely help make it easier, but until you get some bulletproofing done, I would hold off on any tunes. Just my .02

Same here....my 6.0 is stock other than studs, egr delete, no cat or muffler. My mechanic has updated to all the latest software. Maybe that isn't quite stock but..... It pulls my 13,000 lb 5th wheel far better than my previous 2 7.3s with intake mod, no muffler or cat and TS chip. So, before I spend hundreds to get a few more horses and 2 mpg, I'm fixing rust to help the body last. New bed floor is next.

I just spent $7,500 to have every gasket, o ring, seal, main bearings and heads replaced and 3 weeks later another 1,000 for front u joints, bearings and seals. So I don't have the funds to start playing with tuning anyway.
