Loaded up the truck and boat today to head to central Oregon for a few days of recreation. In moderate traffic trans temp was climbing higher than I’ve ever seen it. Towing the boat I typically see about 160-170. Today it climbed up to 190 then up to 210.. Once on the freeway I got it down to 185-190. Slow 3 mile descend to the campground it climbed up to 250 for a couple minutes. I have a magnefine inline filter that hasn’t been change in probably 60,000 miles. I’m going to change that out before I leave hoping it is just plugged. I have an aftermarket cooler that has been on since I bought the truck with 30,000 and have 190,000 with never a tranny problem. Not sure why it is all of a sudden heating up. Tranny oil is still nice and red and not burnt. Lines in and out of the cooler were not hot. Any thought?

Trying blowing some low pressure air through the cooler lines and make sure they aren't plugged?

The inline filter might be plugged, I dont know much about those filters though.

If the inline filter is even partially plugged the added restriction will open the bypass valve and the hot ATF will not get to the cooler. That filter is way overdue for replacement.

Wanted to post a follow up. Went to leave the campground and it hit me that anything but the stock programming on my DP Tuner raised the transmission line pressure and thought I'd go back to stock and see what happens. Well good news. Hauled the boat home 150 miles out of the canyon and through the mountains on the way back to Portland and temperature stayed right about 175 most of the way until we hit some stop an go traffic and it climbed up to 185. Came home and threw a new inline filter in and let it idle in the driveway for about 10 mins and went and ran some errands and it stayed at 150. Could finally feel some heat in the cooling lines going to the cooler. Dissected the old magenefine and there was a lot of very fine material in the pleats. That must have been enough to build pressure to operate the bypass valve and cut off flow to the coolers. Appears to be back to normal. Thanks for the help!
