Here's the deal, the converter I put in my truck is way to tight and has really hurt my trucks spool up. The truck is just a dog out of the hole. I spoke with the converter builder and they are more than willing to fix the converter up so it will work better for my application.

Heres my question though, when I go from park to reverse it loads the motor down hard, almost like it's gonna die. Is the super tight converter causing that or is that a pump issue?

Anyone have any insight?

Have you checked fluid level?

A big cause of stalling in reverse is low fluid.

Another guy had a bad PI converter and his truck was doing the same thing. I think you just got a bad converter all the way around. Acts like it has not stall.

Have you ever been around a truck with a broken sprag to where the truck has no torque multiplication? Is yours that bad or like halfway in between? How long have you had your tranny/convertor?

I've never been around anything with a broken sprag, but there definatley isn't much torque multiplication. The truck would hardly push the trailer I was towing backwards in the parking lot I had to turn around in.

The converter has been in since the motor build. So since about mid June. And it's been like this since day one.

I bet it is a bad converter rather then too tight but hopefully one of the guys that really knows can chime in.

ive been in a truck with a broken sprag.....doesn't fair too well off the line and makes a lot of smoke...

jacob- maybe you could try a t/c lockup switch just to see if it does anything!! cheap test there. sucks when a warranty works that way..ill see if i can help you out without having to pull it and send it then wait.

The bog in reverse sounds like the converter clutch is coming on. Low pressure can cause it, but you can't blame the pump outright. Loose VB bolts will do it. Possibly the seal on the stator shaft was overlooked and not installed or rolled. Good luck

Well, whatever it is, I need to get it fixed. It's pretty bad when you can't spool a .84 TN with DI Mini Me's.

Something is definatley wrong, becasue it spooled instantly with the stock tranny. And I'm going ot have live tuning done in October, so I need to get it fixed before then for sure...

Yeah, once the trucks gets going it pulls like a freight train. It's just doggy and gutless for the first 150-200ft from a stop, then it comes on hard.

Everything works great once you get up and moving. It just takes forever to get it to there...

Richter is right. Once the stator isn't needed, The converter works. That's the symptoms of an obvious stator failure. Explaining it that way to someone who knows how it works, will get faster results.

How come this site won't recognize capitals letters without giving it a cookie??? :D:D

In a round of bout way I aquired an old Suncoast and had my converter guy freshen it up. Ended up it had a stator that scooped a lot of fluid and the thing had no bottom at all, I had to put a ford reman in it until he could do me a regular unit and the difference was night and day.

I think now you just have the wrong combo.

Problem is they are that way about having to send it back, hell they wouldn't even sell Lenny the parts to make the one I had work right. One could sell that unit and go with a different brand that also has customer service worth a damn. This is not the first issue of this nature I have seen with that company.

If you have the room on your card to buy a new one and then return the old one that sounds like the way to go. It would not be so bad to just do a convertor swap exp if you had some help.
