To test this I can unplug the ICP? I thought I read that somewhere. Regardless i'm going to get a new one but wanted to confirm the test.Nope. Oil in the icp. Means it's bad. They are only like $140.

welcome to the forum! you'd likely get more vies of you start a new thread ... but to start you off, do you have a monitor or scanner to check for (1) engine codes, and (2) engine parms like ICP psi values and IPR% values?need help... 2002 f350 7.3 crank no start... oil level good... new cps from ford... good batteries... good ground... tried 3 different idms... checked all fuses... changed out glow plugs, oil change, new cps, ran for 2 weeks... now back to the same no start but will crank... no fire to injectors... what next? going out of our minds... tach will move with shot of starter fluid to make sure it moved.... so now what?
sure thing happy to help! but i think you'll need the rest of the guys to see this in your own thread. go here & click on the 'New Thread' button (upper left part of page): 7.3L Power Stroke Technical Info - PowerStrokeNation : Ford Powerstroke Diesel Forumhelp my husband work on trucks he is a diesel mechanic by trade and has never had such a headache of a truck... i have learned more about the then i have ever needed to know... and thanks for the quick repsonse
Re check valve cover injector and glow plug harness if new I had a few that the factory zip ties where pulling to hard and causing a short at the plug between terminals when valve cover is tight end down to torque specs!TEE5 and ALF6 Ive also tried a TDE0 that was known to be good just the overdrive doesnt work, and it too will not perform a buzz test. Yes only in this truck, like i said its been tested in several other trucks and works great. ive been through the harness at least a dozen times looking for breaks or cuts and cant find any. this truck has been built from the ground up so ive touched every plug and bolt on this thing and cant find a reason for it to act like this. if i can figure out why the auto pcms wont allow a buzz test, ill be in good shape.
I know this is 5 years after the fact, but I just recently joined and came across this post. I have to commend you on the information you providedOriginally posted by Dave (Golfer) on PSN 01-20-2010 Thanks Dave
its nevvvvver the oil pump...seriously.
I see sooooooooooooooo many guys (dealerships included) that see "no ICP" or some ICP codes in a scantool...and toss HPOP's on truck after truck...when it is either an IPR or an injector (poppet valve) issue.
If you hook up the scantool, and monitor ICP (psi) while cranking...you'll see IPR% (duty cycle) climb & climb 15% key on..20, 30, 40, 55%, higher..the increase in IPR% means that the PCM is requesting ICP pressure to increase...
so ALSO watch ICP(psi) and if it comes up to only 180-250psi or so and stays there...then it's the IPR hung open (bypassing oil back to the oil pan through the front cover) such that only minimal psi can be made.
If the ICP is VERY low...like under 60psi...then it could be injector (poppets) pissing oil (under the VC's)..which is typical for injector with more than 180-200k miles.
if ICP climbs above 550-600..then it will probably climb much higher (15-1800+) and it is most likely going to be an electrical issue.
If his scantool will not connect then its a PCM or chip issue (remove the chip if you have one & haven't removed it yet)
if the scantool connects AND you have >600ICP then look at the datastream for a RPM reading.
if the scantool picks up an RPM signal and it seems accurate....then the CPS is good.
If no RPM on the scantool, replace CPS.
If you have RPM (on scantool, not just on dash)...AND have ICP >600, then run an (key on, eng off) injector "buzz test"...
the buzz test is nothing more than a continuity test from the PCM, through the IDM, and to & from each injector solenoid.
LISTEN to each inj buzz....do they all sound the same? nice & crisp?
if the test passes (and you audibly heard them all)...then wiring is good, IDM is good, HPOP is good...CPS is good...then it could be a fuel issue. gasoline, water, etc...
I wouldn't mention it if I haven't seen it myself numerous times...
any chance this no start began with 10-20miles after a fillup?
Hi, @Deanoz ! Welcome to PSN!I Just purchased my first 7.3, it is a 2000 f 450. I am having some issues with it starting, i have changed the glow plugs, glow plug relay as well as the ICM. i tested all the old glow plus as i changed them and they all tersted good. I had all new ones so put them in any way. truck still cranks a lot before it fires then doesn't run on all cylinders. if i plug the truck in it will fire right up. the only thing i have left to change are the valve cover gaskets. does anyone have any ideas as to what might be the issue, starting to drive me nuts.
