Ok so this isnt a thread bragging about my times on a quarter mile but it does involve drag racing.

So just tonight I was at a stop light just sitting there minding my own business and not harassing anyone around me for once. Well this little POS honda pulls up and about a second or two later starts reving up his little fart cannon he calls an exhaust. So I was like "Ah hell are you serious?" So once it turned green we both took off and I pulled away because the jackass missed a gear and I didnt since I have an automatic. Well I just floored it once it turned green. Didnt spool up the turbo or anything because I have only had it for about a month and I have never done that before. Wasnt quite sure how.

So thats my question. How do I spool up the turbo on an automatic? I know retarded question
Input would be great so next time I can do it and really dust some balls haha

just hold the brake (left foot) and ease it to the throttle till you see the boost starting to come up. you will need to try this a couple of times to find out how much you truck will hold before it starts to break the tires loose. I would assume a couple of pounds in two drive and when you let off the break she will spin the tires.

there will be a group of us at Kil-Kare Dragway(www.kilkare.com) thursday for test and tune if you want to go fast legally and get use to launching with boost.

I wish I could get there to go fast "legally" lol but with my work and school schedule I would be lucky to do that even on the weekends. i almost have to let work know in 2 weeks advance to be able to do it

I have gauges. I will give it a shot next time im playing around

Boosted launches can be fun, and the truck will run a lot faster doing so. If I build up anymore than 3-5psi boost in 2wd it just spins. So if your serious abuot racing someone, lock it in 4wd, and let the truck build up 15-20psi boost before you let'r go.

But hold on, it can be pretty intense.:ford:

so i just tried it on a back road by my house and i got it to about 5psi and once i let off the brake they spun a little bit but not much. I could tell there was a difference in spooling the turbo and not. Pretty cool

I will have to try the 4wd one sometime. How fast can I be going before I should put it back into 2wd? I think the highest I have ever gotten my boost was about 15psi lol. Maybe once I put my chip in it will go higher idk.

In 2WD with any power the tires will just go up in smoke if you boost it much at all if you have any power. You will really have to modulate the pedal to keep the tires sticking. Letting a bunch of air out of them (down to say 20 psi or less) will greatly help. However doing a 4WD launch will hook and you'll be amazed at how hard these things pull off the line. I usually build around 20 psi or so of boost and let 'er rip! Don't power brake it for to long though. One your EGTs will start going through the roof. Two your tranny temps will start climbing pretty fast and three if you do it for to long you will suck the tranny sump dry and the TC will act like it wants to lock up and destroy itself. I had this happen to me when I was trying to build boost at the line before I lit both staging lights. Ended up busting the TC and that's what Brian at BTS told me it was.

Don't worry about trying to put the truck in 2wd run it all the way thru in 4x4 it won't hurt it.

Just dont try to turn with it still locked in. It is very hard on u-joints in the front end. If its electric shift, just flip the switch back to 2x soon as its rolling good. I've run well over 90, doesnt seem to hurt. I'm sure it wont make the chain in the transfer case last longer, but how often are you doing it?

well I have the manuel shifter when it comes to 2wd and 4hi/low but the truck it self is automatic. I dont plan on doing it that much or little to none at that. I just leave my hubs in the un-locked position all the time

Well lets see I think my trap speeds are around the 96mph range and that doesn't count a couple more mph that it probably gains from the time I pass the pole until I let off. Had a rear U-joint let go in Winchester bay and drove the 350ish miles home on the front axle doing 70 mph. If you were doing it all the time it might shorten the life of the T case and front axle but a few spirts up the 1/4 isn't going to hurt anything. As for 4X4 on pavement it will bind up after awhile but it takes a LOT longer than 1/4 mile to do it. You can turn and all with it in 4WD just don't turn to sharp. It will let you know if you are turning to sharp because you will feel it in the wheel trying try jerk back and forth. Kicking it out of 4WD after the launch helps keep it from binding but the front axle will still be turning until you unlock the hubs weather it be manually or by stopping and backing up.

flipping it back in 2WD after launch has been done has been know to strip out the hubs over a period of time. I will not hurt to leave them in 4HI with your hubs in the "Automatic" position because they are designed to slip a little. This is why they do not break the front end parts. The older trucks were the ones you don't drive on asphalt with. when launching your first time in 4HI you will have to hold on that brake really hard but make sure you roll a few feet at idle to make sure they are engaged if not they might engage right after you take off and then your back shaft is moving faster then your front and might strip your hubs and make some god awfull noises. OH YEA make sure you are resting your head in the head rest when you do it. It could hurt. Make sure your dog is not in the bed of your truck
