I think I'm finally gonna breakdown and buy something to replace my TRASHED cvr 10s. They sounded really good....but years of firing directly against my seat has ruined em. I will be flipping the brackets first to prevent future issues.

Should I just go back with the Kickers? Gonna keep running the lil prefab box for now, so I want something that works well in a smaller enclosure. What is a good, moderately priced sub that will handle a JL 500/1.

Also, they cant be terribly deep due to the limitations of the box. (mounting depth)

w3v2's. i have 2 12w3v2s behind my seat, and it sounds awesome. but i am going to go with 3 10's instead. the box i designed was origanally for 10's, but i mad some mods and threw in the 12's since i already had them. countersunk the speaker, and shaved out the inside back wall of the box. fits perfectly, and no bracket flip.

i like my phoenix gold 10's. they have a pretty nice deep tone and play well on higher bass as well. i have mine mounted behind the seat in my single cab. if i remember right my box depth is like 4" or something like that. i don't know if they would fit into your box. i have heard the kicker 10's as well and they also sound great.

The best subs you can buy are the ones that sound the best to YOU and are within your budget.

Kickers are good, JLAudio is good, and I have had a lot of luck with the newer MTX stuff. Currently I have JL 10s and like them, but they just don't have the impact I want. I will be upgrading to a single 15 MTX Thunder 8500. Should sound good. :D

Most of the MTX subs are pretty deep though.

15" is pretty bassy. i believe the jl W7 line to be the best i have ever heard. i had the 12W7 but i think it hit a lil too deep and hard, so i switched to the 10W7 and have liked that a lot better. cleaner sound to me and less deep bass. thats unless you cruise the boulevard, then get a 15"

I have always preferred one tight larger sub to multiple smaller subs. The enclosure has a lot to do with it too. I have run single 12s, and 15s before. I currently have 2 JL 10s in the truck, and am only moderately happy with them. In my old Honda I had several systems including 2 10" pioneers, 4 8" Kickers, 1 12" Cerwin Vega, 2 12" Cerwin Vegas, 2 12" Bostons, and 1 15" Kicker. My favorites were the single 12" CV, the 12" Bostons, and the Kicker in that order(least to most favorite). The bostons were great but needed a LOT of power. The 15" Kicker was by far the best sounding and tightest(I did go through 4 different enclosures). These are only the systems in that one car. I ran that same 15 in my Tahoe for a while, but it just wasn't enough, it was also pretty worn out. I like to feel the impact. Listening to 311, Red Hot Chili Peppers, or PIL and not feeling the bass just sucks. I almost have my wife convince to let me add some bass to her Jeep.

But I have a strange ear, always have. Used to be able to adjust systems without looking at a spec analizer, just using my ears and get close to an almost perfect flat response. I used to have almost perfect hearing with no resonances. Of course years of huge stereos, grinders, and loud work environments have left me with less than perfect hearing.

But when it comes down to it the best speakers you can buy are the ones that sound the best to you. You can buy electronics based on spec as they are only passing the waveforms, but speakers are very subjective. Most people don't give the proper attention to speakers, speaker placement, and speaker mounting.

I have been involved with Car audio for a long time and have heard some crazy stories. :D

I guess I would go with the JL if you can get it to fit. I have never been fond of the kicker subs. I have always ran Rockford Fosgate or JL. Its just hard finding a sub with a small cubic space rating on it. I know pioneer make one too.

I have 2 10" mtx subs in a custom enclosure pushed only by a mtx 250watt amp that is bridged and the subs are in series. It may sound small but it sounds good and it hits hard just ask my ol lady I made her sick with it. But the subs are shot now from hitting the back of the seat.

That is a problem, no long travel sub is going to last forever if it is constantly smacking the back of the seat. That is only one of the reasons I am going to move my bass to the center console.
