I have read on some of the Dmax forums that some of them are running their stock ECM's autonomously in a stand alone type set up. I know that the boat guys do it as well. They usually run custom EFI Live tunes. I don't know of the advantages of this in a competition set up, but is this possible for the 6.4 for transplant use? A spartan or SCT wired right into the computer with nothing else......
Yes, the newer Ford processors are so advanced, it would be tough to build something better. Most of the stand alone controllers are built to make it easier to tune, rather than more functionality.
But what about if all non essentials are removed, can the ECU be "de-advanced" to just run the engines essentials as if it were placed in a boat or an older model truck.
Thats good to know because a guy in a performance shop was talking to me about how he could hack my spartan bc hes an efi live tuner. And then he threw in the whole water/meth thing. Give him credit he knew what he was talking about but he said hes never done a new ford.
The red flag should have been when he said he was an EFILive tuner.....you know at that moment in time that he most likely knows nothing about a Power Stroke.
Yea, if it wasnt terribly expensive to buy, i probably wouldve learned about it on psn. Id rather adjust the tune for driving style not driving style to tune.
