For anybody that has actually swapped out splits for some comparable size singles - What kind of changes did you notice, especially on the noise?

Well, noise definitely went up but I kinda like the sound better. Sounds more "healthy" to me.

Mileage, in town and towing is definitely up, I think the Terminator helps with that as well. In town I barely have to touch the throttle.

Freeway mpg, I honestly haven't had the chance to do a *good* test.
Example: I got 18.5 on the splits crusing at about 72mph mixed with some in town (denver) driving.

I have ran interstate with the singles, but never a whole tank that slow, usually 75-80 at least.

I do know it got 15.5 pulling a 20' gooseneck (empty), and it maybe would have done 12 before. I possibly attribute that to the 2 stroke oil I'm running as well.

I'm thinking about getting some singles. But nothing to hot I do allot of towing and worried about egt's maybe something in the 40hp range or so. I like the idea of better fuel mileage also. Any suggestions?

If you're keeping a stock HPOP I would go with some 160cc stage 1 singles, or AC codes. (same thing AC's are just factory Int'l, 'Stage 1s' are reworked AA's from an aftermarket shop)

If you plan on twin HPOPs in the future you can go a little more fuel, like 180-195cc and if you keep a stock nozzle it's not too hot on a good tow burn.

Ive noticed with the larger turbo my mileage dropped considerably. I was averaging 17+- with AB's and stock turbo, now its anywhere between 13-14 mpg. My big b codes also average 13-14 with the big turbo.

I haven’t had a chance to test it out yet, but at least in theory, singles should give better fuel mileage than splits due to the fact that a single shot gives a longer average burn time per combustion event.

Some people think my injectors are some sort of national treasure, and myself if it ain’t broke I don’t fix it, but I am coming up on 200,000 miles and my injectors have to be getting worn. I may have a bit of a conversation with an injector guy soon.

I had Swamps build me some slightly fun singles when I ruined my splits running Easy Off or something through them. I also had them burn a chip at the same time, so I don't know where it came from, but I'm averaging a 1.5MPG increase. I hand calculate every tank, and I had the splits for 50k miles and the singles for about the same, so it's not a temporary thing, or a single tank miscalculation. The singles are slightly louder. If you want to know how loud, stand next to an OBS.

No plans yet. My old injectors are runnin' fine.

If somebody wants me to test them out, I'm listening...

Kinda curious about the people who swapped splits to singles and saw an increase, how many did so when the splits needed to be changed anyway. A set of worn out splits would have a disadvantage compared to a new set of singles, they would have a disadvantage compared to a new set of splits as well.

Hey Dave, mine are at 239K and still going, but then I only get 16MPG.

I know I gained mileage from my 290,000 mile splits to stage 1 singles, noise is hardly noticeably louder.

I think I reported this in another thread.

Summer of '08, I swapped for single at 208,000 miles.

Result: Exactly the same MPG. No improvement at all.

I saw about a 1 mpg increase when switching to Swamps 175/146 Single Shots from stock split shots. 15-16 mpg around town and 18 highway if I can keep my heavy foot off the throttle, truck is a 2WD - so it's a bit lighter. Truck definitely holds ICP much better than before and I love towing our 31' 5th wheel with this setup, better power and EGT's seemed to drop a bit also. They are a bit louder at idle......but I like it.

No regrets here.
