I have been running one on my truck for about 3 months because they were out of 6637's. I have to say that there is nothing wrong with the filter at all. It has been washed without any deterioration and it filters pretty well.

Lol ....I run two of them . Maintained they seem to be doing well
I just pulled off my wye pipe and wiped out the inside and it was still clean.
I'd rather have an s&b or afe of the same size no idea if they make them,
but they work for me.
I can even cover one with a shopping bag and still not set the filter minder.
I can also guarantee they are better then my oem box with 2 broken tabs.

If you go to the S&B web site you can order universal filters in a wide range of sizes.

I shpould add I wouldn't go out of my way to buy one.
But if your truck fund is on a tight or non exhistant budget like mine.
Then I I would say sure. My napa store wanted 79.99 for a 6637,
My oem box was shot I needed a filter. So my temp solution, has become semi permanent.

I first looked at the 6637 everyone is running and bought one and installed it. But I have been looking some more and plan to switch to the AFE Pro Pro 5R 24-91042

Not my truck.

The face is also filtered instead of closed like the 6637. This fits perfect to the fender air vent.

I bought a Spectre at O'reillys on an impulse. Seems to be pretty well made. I paid 39.95, so I hope its not a "you get what you pay for" thing. I was concerned about the stock lid leaking, so I did the pipe and filter mod.

I fairness though, There are guys who swear by K&N, and I have been on many forums, this one included, that guys bash them too. So it could be, fair to assume, they don't like Spectre because it's a washable filter. The whole filter thing is subjective anyway.

In GENERAL, paper filters filter more, & therefore, are more restrictive by nature. Washables are GENERALLY higher flowing, so the thought being they don't filter as well.
In the paper vs washable controversy, there is most likely a trade off, and the "practical" ramifications, if any can be speculative, i.e., "I had to replace the " ******'S " at 350,000 miles instead of 375,000.

At least Spectre has SOME propaganda

I have a specter...... Lol! I added it to my 6637! :hehe: Now I have dual retarded filters. I'll probably do a 5" intake with an afe bigboost or pro 5r when my gtx4294 gets here.

You know those little specter filters that are meant for ricers? There was a guy at a recent drag race with a 2000 7.3l with one of those only!!!! :hehe::hehe:
