Anyone run Royal Purple? I'm about to make the switch to syn, and am thinking of going with RP. Its what I run in my cobra and wonder if their diesel oil is worth it. I belive it is a 15/40 oil as well. Thanks. :ford:

What type of Truck... 7.3L or 6.0L? Do you happen to be stationed at Pope AFB/Ft Bragg? Caught Fayettnom, NC as your location.

I would not.....

Have not heard the best of things about it and when I used it in my car, I was burning 2 qts between oil changes.

Sorry, thought my truck was in my sig. guess I need to up date that. Its a 7.3, mostly stock. Well until my tax return comes in. White Buffola: Yea, right now I'm stationed at Pope. But I'm hoping to get orders in about a year or so.

I've had good luck with it in my cobra. That's why I ask. The local NAPA has it in stock, as well as delo and rotella syn in stock.

I wouldnt use it. Do yourself a favor if you do end up using it in your truck for some reason, and get a UOA done a couple times and see what happens. Bet you wont like what you see...

Just my opinion:

There are some good and bad UOA reports on Royal Purple on the 7.3L out there. There are also some diehard Royal Purple fans on this site and others. Speaking specifically about the 7.3L Powerstoke, my issue is about cost.

What does Royal Purple run, about $30 a gallon? For quite a bit less (@ 1/3 to 1/2 less) you can get as good or better results on a used oil analysis running Schaeffer's 7000 15W-40, Delo 400 15W-40, Rotella Synth 5W-40, Valv Prem Blue.

So why spend the extra $ if it will not yield better results? Now, if you are die hard RP fan - go for it.

Nitrousjunkie347, I kinda miss Fort Bragg & Pope Air Force Base. The only time I went over to Pope AFB was to eat the better food and to sit in the hanger waiting to get pushed out of the door of a C-130 or C-141......

Thats sort of what I do for the AF. I'm the one that escorts the cargo, I mean jumpers to the bird. I also load/unload all them damn cargo air craft too. I cant wait to hear something on my retraining paperwork....

I hear you - and good luck on the retraining request. All good things will come in time, just keep being persistant and get as much education as you can. The military tends to take a long time in these matters. Either way, thank you for your service, it's a hard time being in the Military lately considering how streched out you guys are and dealing with the numerous deployments.

:eek::eek:
Jumping out of a perfectly good airplane...thats crazy man.;)

Best,
Jim
That's a beautiful bird you fly there Jim, I am jealous. Glad to see you on PSN. Still can't believe we are running into each other 20+ years later on a Diesel Truck Forum!

Since you are shopping at a NAPA see if they have the Valvoline Blue Extreme fully syntheic 5w40. Make sure its the Extreme 5w40 as the 15w40 is dino. It has been getting very good reviews and NAPA is one of the few places that stocks it. I would certainly use it before RP. I have not had good luck with RPs products. Not to mention I am sure a good amount of what you are paying for is all the advertising and big banners they buy; "Name".

Personally I run Schaeffers in all my vehicles and have never had anything but great perf from them for combined many hundred thousands worth of miles. Their tech side has always been very helpful and forth coming about their products and whats in them which I really like.
