Anyone here seen the new (to me at least) Shell Rotella T6 0W-40 in the May Diesel Power Magazine?
What are everyone's thoughts?

I know I was at the dealership the other day and they had a 2012 6.7 with the cab off. Engine was fried (27000 miles) When I asked the tech about it he said the guy was running Rotella in his. I then asked whats the big deal with Rotella because I run it in my 6.0.

He told me that the new engines take some crazy weight oil...... that must be it. the tech said that the oil we run in the 6.0's will damage the 6.7. Now I'm not sure about all the facts with that but the engine i saw had fried pistons, broken rods, sludge in the oil pan, etc, etc.

Not doubting what you saw or was told, but i would say the tech is full of ####.. Owners manual states 10w-30 weight, 5w-40 and 15w-40 depending on conditions, and fuels being used..The api rateings in the manual, also cross over to what the latest crop of popular oils meet.. [diesel rated oils like chevron, mobil, shell rotella,etc] My local dealer says he drains the 10-30 out when a truck comes in for a change, and puts 15-40 back in, unless the owner specifies otherwise.. I have seen way to many of these engine's with over 75k on them, useing rotella and delo oils.. The sludge you witnessed in the oil pan should be a clue to contamination, or neglect..

yeah. I was a bit taken back with all this "knowledge". the owner swears he changed the oil himself....... but I have NEVER seen a truck come apart like that and the only reason be oil changes

Jess Warren suggested for me to run it in the 6.0. He claimed I might pick up some power from the change.

Sounds like someone didnt change his oil.....
