Anyone done a rear main seal? I changed mine and i dont know if ive done it correctly. Fact, im almost possitive i didnt. Its leaking. So i pulled the old one off. Pryed the ring off, cleaned the rtv. Reaplyed the rtv, left the seal together on the ring. Slid it on the crank. Took a rubber mallet and went around and around untill the ring was all the way on the crank. Then took the flexplate and bolted it on. Now shouldnt the spacer seat the ring the rest of the way? Im aware they do make a tool for this. Does this tool set the ring farther. And if so how much?

you separated the wear sleeve (ring) from the seal?
if so, that's a problem.
...and are you sure it was the rear main leaking, to begin with? Rear mains are a very uncommon leak source on the 7.3's...very uncommon...until they are F'd with.
degrease everything, apply red (liquid hydraulic) Loctite to the inner diameter of the wear sleeve.
apply a decent amount of the "International Gray" silicone sealant (don't use the paper gasket, if it was supplied) to the part of the seal assembly that will seal to the rear cover...
(As one assembly) gently start the wear sleeve onto the crank journal, and then use the flexplate adapter and the OEM 18mm bolts to push the seal onto the crank (until flush with the end of crank)...
We use 3 of the factory bolts (~120 deg apart) and a stack of washers to pull the seal down...add washers as necessary to take up the slack.
