is there anything wrong w/ pullin in high range? this year i pulled in 2 low and locked the converter but i will be doin more performance work this winter(hybrids) and was thinkin of runnin 1st high range and lockin the converter. i like the idea of this as apose to shiftin from 2nd to 3rd then lockin the converter. what yall think?

I pulled in low range and 2nd this year... Worked great... Your going to need alot of power to pull in hi range effectively

Plus think of the multiplication factor. If you go to high range the power is 1:1. Low range gives you more torque to pull farther and brake things.
I pull in low range, I make it to third gear and Jody has tuned the chip to keep the TC unlocked. I only lock the TC if I throw the switch manually.

Won't tapping the "OD off" button on the shifter keep your TC unlocked too?
Nope. mine locks all the time with the OD locked out.

So how do you know when the TC locks up? Do you feel it or hear it? I think I can feel mine lockup, almost feels like another gear but it's not, would that be it?

i agree i was just tryin to make sure pullin in high would not cause the transfer case to become a weak link cause i really do not like shiftin w/ all that wieght behind me

you need to figure out final drive ratio and go from there. wheel speed and final drive ratio have more to do with pulling than just trying 1st high or 2nd low and when to lock the converter up.
I'm glad you said that. Too many people say high this or low that. Some parts may take the power better one way or another. Bottom line is wheel speed and having the power to make it work.

What if you have a set of 4.10s or 4.56 alot of power & a 31"-33" tire & pull in high range? Or would those gears still not be low enough? I know I have put mine into low range with 4.10s & I thought of it more like pulling a double wide off road than a sled down a track. Never done it before so I'm not sure!

Run the truck at 3k-3.5k rpms in high 1st then low 3rd. If it's the same speed there will be less stress on the auto in low. The gear changes get the sled moving faster.

but are the gear changes too hard on the internals?

my trans builder says I can't hurt the trans. He said put it in drive with the OD locked, 4low out and have at it. Even with the T/C programmed no to lock he said it will not hurt anything. With that being said I figure it can not hurt a built trans.
