Anyone know of a tune that uses pilot injection in these old 7.3L. Was reading up on them and was just curious.

You can't tune a 7.3 to run pilot injections like you can newer common rail trucks. You can however install split shot injectors. The problem with split shot injectors is you have to physically modify the injector in order to change the size of the split shot, delay between the split and the main shot, and every modification you make to your injectors also effect the way the split shot is implemented. For instance - you go from a stage I injector to a stage II - the only thing you change is the tip. BUT now you pilot injection volume is still the same, but the amount is injected faster - then you still have the same delay as before - then your main shot is injected faster. See all the issues.

IMHO - split shot is not worth the headache on the HEUI injection system.

not split shot. Like the newer diesels have to quiet them now.

You cannot use just a tune on a 7.3 PSD for multiple injections. The only way to get more than one injection per firing event is to install split shot injectors.

With split shot injectors the first shot is the pilot shot, and the second shot is the main event.

If you want to quiet the truck down get some custom tunes. It won't ever be as quiet as the newer trucks though.
