Just watched the outdoor channel, Diesel power challange.
They done a fuel economy test, WOW, if it is right.
Ford, three different trucks not factory, averaged 15 to 17 mpg.
Dodge three trucks, 16 to 19.
Chevy three trucks 23 to 37 mpg.

How are these duramax getting this?

Yup. Another auxiliary fuel application where they didn't account for the auxiliary fuel consumption. A lotta people used to do that with propane.

Shows how little media types know about MPG.

Never understood how you can get a true MPG test when your not running straight #2.
On that not the Dmax tends to do good on fuel from what I've seen.

our work dmax 2007 modle 3500 dually crew cab 4x4 gets over 20 mpg easy and it is bone stock. Sometimes with the right person drivin "me" it will get 23 mpg hwy hand calculated not pullin anything. It feels fast too for a stock truck. Our 2008 psd f 350 4x4 crew cab only gets about 15 to 16 driving the exact same way and same roads.

Mine gets 15-17 towing five tons of building materials in aflatbed trailer and 2,000 lb in the bed. Fords CAN give you good MPG.

37 MPG out of A Duramax - better than a Cobalt - gotta give you a whiff of rodent.

I average 15+ MPG controlling for actual ground speed in my Excursion (they are heavy) and including the times when I tow a 24ft enclosed auto hauler.

The X (Ford Excursion) | Fuelly

Fuelly has a pretty easy set up to log your data. Certainly allows for some comparisons with others...and a critique of their data collection too.

I got about 15-17 on a 100 mile trip the other day driving mostly 55-70 & some town & playing with it. I made the same trip yesterday but cut it down to 65 on the highway & the same amount of town & got around 20mpg.

That's with a 7k 4x4 flatbed 3.55 gears & 235/85-16" tires. EGTs around 400-600* since I played with timing.
