I was going to order this about a month ago and decided to get something the wife wanted instead. Well now I will actually be ordering this tomorrow. Here are the tunes I plan to order,
Stock
40 tow
80 tow
80 dd
100 perf
Whisper
My question is will the EGT and transmission be safer with a 65 tow tune rather than the 80 tow. I only tow a camper weighing around 6500. The 80 tow is rated for 7500 but if the EGTs and tranny will be safer with the 65 tow (rated 7500-10000) I will go with that. I don't tow heavy now but am getting the 40 tow tune (up to 12500 rated) just in case I do. What are your opinions? If you have actual EGT data that would be best. I do tow in the mountains if it makes a difference. Thanks.

I would get the hydra chip over the other...

That being said, I am not a fan of 35 tow tunes. I control my EGT's with my right foot.

I would skip the dd 80 and get the other tow tune. The dd tune is for city driving stop and go. The 100 will get better mileage.

My truck stays in the 100 tune when not towing and the 80t for towing my 10k loads. Not sure if you're gearing and terrain will play well with the 80t or not.

I tow in my street hot file... Dyno's 400-410hp. I drive 99% of the time in that tune.

I've never had a tow tune that I liked. I see no reason to have a special tow tune for anything.

I have 3.73 gears and 285/75/16 tires so not much bigger than stock. So the tow tunes transmission tuning isn't a significant difference or are you manual? I figured it would help with the shifting. Towed my camper with this truck for the first time last weekend and wasn't overly impressed. Downshifted to second and would barely hold 50 on the 7% grade passes. They are fairly large passes, but with the truck rated to tow 12-13 or more I figured 6500 would be no problem. Horseshoe bend hill for any of those in Idaho. I did like that on the flats is was easily able to hold overdrive where my 06 f150 od was off when towing as it was useless.

Truck isn't my DD so I doubt the hydra would be worth the extra cash. Besides the chip and gauges, I have no additional mods planned. I drive it for towing the TT/camping and any other random times I need a truck. Maybe once a week when not camping.

I was in the same boat as you and figured for the extra $125 the hydra was worth it. I read a few reviews where guys were saying they wished they had chosen the higher hp tunes and would have to pay to have reflashed. Also it has the ability to use other peoples tunes (gearhead, tony wildman, etc) plus everything is through the internet using the use cable. I do plan on upgrading in the future although fairly mild- 38r and injectors -so the hydra will be easier to tune.

That said I used the 80hp tune this past weekend with my 27' 5th wheel camper that weighs 7500+ and we have plenty of hills here in Maine. It never got hot, had TONS more power than stock, and never really required more then quarter throttle. I gave it half throttle once to see what it had and was amazed how quickly it got to speed.

The tow tunes hold gears longer and seem to lock the converter sooner. I have all 3 loaded on my hydra "just in case". Id definitely recommend the 120hp race, its an awesome tune as is the 100hp performance.

Quick question, so I'm ordering gauges any reason to get 60 psi boost gauge over the 35 psi gauge? I shouldn't see over 35 with just a chip and stock internals should I?

It would be nice if they had a gauge that reads between those two. I would get the 35 if you are not doing major mods.

Key word there is should be. I know I should be but it's hard to justify the extra 140 or so when I don't drive the truck much. Going with glowsh*ts for just under 200. I'm already $1000 into this truck with these mods and I told myself I wasn't goin to do mods to this truck but we all know how that goes. Where are the cheapest isspros? Around 340 I think when I looked them up.

Got ya... So a 10k motor that your modifying to make 50% more HP then it came from the factory with, your going to protect with a set of cheap ass chinese made gauges.

I prefer a US made product over chinese crap.

You've spent $1000 on your mods, and your worried about less then 10% of that total to get a quality gauge?

Not sure, either magazine or one of the companys on hefe. Check diesel site, riff raff, no limits tuning and design, strictly diesel, mike's diesel performance, etc.

The whisper mode is awesome for the drive thru. No need for multiple tow tunes.
