Ok i am considering the conversion.
I know i need to do some things to the 7.3 and i am pondering the expense.
A little info to set the stage.
Truck needs oil. I have been driving it for 3 years with 1700 psi @WOT. It also needs studs. I never got around to doing it either due to medical issues keeping me from work and the ability to repair my own vehicles. SO the reality of the matter at hand is by the time i pull the motor and install studs, do a little head clean up and valve springs,pushrods and install the Big Oil i am looking at $4k.
Now i already have Injectors,H2e,Tapercore & Fuel system so it's not like i have a lot to buy to get to a decent HP level. The only 2 complaint's i have with my setup is the laggy turbo due to my 38's and 4.30 gears and the poor fuel mileage. I do 90% around town driving under 50mph and it just smokes as the rpm are always way down. I know i need a different turbo to fix it and twins would be the best but 6K just does not seem justifiable on top of the other stuff. As far as the fuel mileage i have a friend with a 03 CR on 40's who gets 18's + around town and on his last trip to the Badlands on the highway saw 24+. He even towed his 26 enclosed and saw 20's. I have never seen 18 even stock on the highway with my truck and right now 12 in town and 15 hwy is just eating me.
So this is my situation. Hopefully after surgery today i will be done and able to go back to a normal life after 18 months off so far. This is a project for the spring and will follow the others doing this closely to see the results.
I will check back next week after i come out of the medicated fog and read what has been posted.
