Does the intake manifold have to come off to change the oil cooler out?

A lot of places sell updated ford oil coolers with their EGR delete kits. When was this upgrade done? What year vehicles have the new one already?

What are better options than the OEM ford for replacing the oil cooler that can be done by a fairly competent amateur like me?

Thanks-

The intake manifold does need to be removed.

The OEM oil cooler is the most cost effective way to cool the oil.

A bulletproof EGR cooler is worth the money if you still have the EGR system.

I am not aware of any updates to the oil cooler. All that was done was a core was offered so that Ford could avoid the cost of replacing the entire heat exchanger in warranty claims.

the inake manifold does need to be removed but not completely you can slide it foward a few inches and remove the cooler.IMO i would completely delete the cooler if you can get away with it.

He meant delete the EGR cooler - since I suggested replacing it w/ an aftermarket one.
