OBS build up questions

Looking at getting a obs .....

1. what internal engine parts are available for these engines (pistons, rods etc....)?

2. Also what is the best year to get?

3. How much power can you make on these engines?

4. Who has the fastest obs and what is your top speed?

thanks,
Andrew

my superduty is 7900 and my cc obs is 7300, so yes there's a big weight difference.
Luke why did you take your OBS back to stock and make a Sd a race truck?

im selling the cc obs. The superduty is not a race truck, i have no race truck. I got tired of constantly working on stuff, sold the nitrous and sticking with good ol #2 only. I bought the superduty because i wanted a nicer riding, quieter and better driving truck. I have a 2wd obs truck that gets tow duty now.

it is sold to my brother when i get time to put it back together.
ah gotcha
ive been on another planet for a while i didnt know ya went to the dark side luke??? after the sound mattin my obs is much quieter than my wifes sd. well and it rides a bit nicer too
yeah but yours dont count since its on air ride lol. Yes i bought a superduty about 4 months ago, kinda wondering why i didnt buy it sooner
Jake where are the pics of the air ride? That would make a cool fresh post.

i havent gotten another camera i will one of theese days, plus im in the middle of some re designing at the moment. once i get er all done ill have pics up. ive just been torturing myself with auto cad getting all the new brackets drawn up to send out to the cutters. i suck on acad2007.

ive thought that way on the superduty at times, i love the disc brakes on the rear, the 6speed, the closer dash and better mirrors and positioning. and i would like a 3rd door supercab

but i love the look of my obs better and i think its a bit easier to work on. plus the better wheel bearings in the front. and my windwings. but one of theese days im gonna get on some custom mirrors that will be in a better spot and have pwr adjust and heated. i dont know why the mirrors are so far back on thoose trucks if ianybody is in the back and someone sitting in the front seat you cant see that mirror. but i like the less plastic interior of the obs. im gonna go custom interior on my truck too one of theese days......im never buying another truck just gonna build mine the way it should be.

Hate to say it but those SD are calling my name more and more these days too.
Yes the basic internals are the same, the main difference is that EVERY OBS truck has forged connecting rods. 0-60 would be 4 second range, using a calculator i found on the net IIRC my truck was low 4's.
0-60 my truck today, was able to pull off 7 secs with a loaded truck and 4 average guys, in 4x4, with a cel code.
A 4" downpipe isn't that big of a deal in an OBS . Here ya go.

And it was installed before we took the cab off :D

imo a 4" dp is not needed unless you plan on making huge power. 3" works just fine and is MUCH easier to fit.

I'd have to agree.

If you want to do a 4" down pipe here is one way to make it fit. http://www.gts-motorsports.com/gt'sdpclearance.html It was a LOT of work but turned out real nice.

If you plan on big power there really isn't any difference in any of the engines. IIRC the later cranks didn't have the lightening holes in them so the counter weights are larger and require some cut outs in the block to clear. I think the earlier blocks in the '94.5 and '95 trucks had a couple weak spots there were prone to crack. If you are getting a '94-'97 truck I'd look for the '97 or at least a '97 due to the front covers being a little different. As far as internals go the same rods, pistons, pushrods, head studs, head gaskets, main studs, valves, etc are all the same. Only difference between a '99 and the older ones as far as the block goes is nothing so not sure why joey thinks the '99 is better. They did come with AB injectors which are slightly larger and IMHO the best injector for a starting point to build on but everything else is pretty much the same. I think the cams even still had the mechanical fuel pump lobe on them. The fuel system and stuff is different on them but that's not really any part of the block or main engine.

As far as perifials go you will need an electric fuel system and intercooler especially if you plan to do much towing. You'll need a bigger turbo like an H2E or something equivilant. The injectors will need to be gone through and made to flow a fair bit more fuel as well. Then you have all the typical intake, exhaust, gauges, etc. For some mild mods you get more out of the SDs mainly due to the 140cc injectors vs. the 90cc in the older trucks but once you get to the point that you want to make some bigger power the cost is all the same.
