Looking at getting a obs .....

1. what internal engine parts are available for these engines (pistons, rods etc....)?

2. Also what is the best year to get?

3. How much power can you make on these engines?

4. Who has the fastest obs and what is your top speed?

Same stuff thats available for the superduties

96 or 97 have a front cover that wont drain down when you install a superduty hpop, other than that they are all about the same

how deep is your wallet?
4. Who has the fastest obs and what is your top speed?

Hey Luke

I got a raise so I will be able to buy a steady stream of mods every month.

So the engine internals of a 94-97 are the same as the 99-03?

How fast would the 0-60 mph be on a 11 and 12 sec truck?

thanks,
Andrew

Yes the basic internals are the same, the main difference is that EVERY OBS truck has forged connecting rods. 0-60 would be 4 second range, using a calculator i found on the net IIRC my truck was low 4's.

Because there is no room for a 4 inch. Heck a 3 inch requires quite a bit of fire wall bending.

Any serious build is going to need an aftermarket fuel system, turbo, and HPOP anyways...

OBS parts are easy to find in a junk yard (when i blew my rear it was cheaper just to get another one than to fix the one I had) and everything is fairly easy to get to. They are cheaper, and look damn good to boot.

plus everybody and their brother has a Sooper Doody....

i like the ease of a bit more room to work, if your doing a high hp build your gonna be tearin into most everything engine wise so motor wise sd or obs i dont think it matters. the downpipe issue you just need pull some of the interior out and form some sheet metal cut the firewall and weld your new tunnel in, then you can drop that 4" pipe in no problem. plus i like the obs truck body better.

You guys have forgot the biggest difference. The OBS truck is lighter than a SD. That is a big advantage at the drag strip.

I don't remember exactly how much but it was at least a couple hundred pounds.

Get a reg. cab 2wd and put a short bed on and lower it. Then put some slicks on the back and you'll have a quicker truck than a SD with the same engine just from the weight savings.

Also, I'm not sure if anyone has tried it but you could put 1/2 ton springs in the rear to aid in traction. You would need traction bars anyway and with drag racing you need soft rear springs, the ones in these trucks are far from that.
