FIXED!!!! No Crank, Help

Hey guys,

Quick brief:

Truck died, replaced CPS and it fixed it, until the next a.m it wouldnt crank. I went and tested for a bad battery and got a new one. It ran fine for two days and now this a.m it just turns over but wont crank.

Any ideas? Bad CPS?

Check everything stated above. I would also recommend always replacing both batteries at the same time. You need to separate the batteries to test them. 1 good batter and 1 bad battery will always read as 2 good batteries, but in all reality you aren't making enough juice to fire the truck.

Check fuse #30

Can you hear the fuel pump running when you turn the ignition on? Turn the key on as you bend over and listen directly underneath drivers side door. Fuel pump should run for about 20 seconds or so then shut off.

CPS are $15 each at powerstrokeshop.com keep an extra in your glove box.

Have you checked fuse 30 like mentioned above?

Just because the CPS is new doesn't mean it's good.

Fuse 30 in the Central Junction Box (under the dash) it is a 30 amp blade fuse.
Your truck wont start if it is blown.

You can also check in the Battery Junction Block (under the hood) fuse 24 (20 Maxi) and 27 (30 Maxi).

Check the oil level and make sure the HPOP reservoir has oil in it. Wont start if there if oil level is low also.

You could have a bad new CPS as well.

Still now sure why you aren't getting any codes, hmmmm????

Ok here is a quick update…….. Truck is still dieing but it’s only doing it at idle. I can’t figure this one out. I drove the truck down the street and it was fine until I let out of the gas pedal to make a u-turn. It died and did not want to start back. Kept trying to start her back up and she wants to fire but doesn’t until after five or six times. I held the rpm’s up at 2,000…..and she ran perfectly. I know it’s something electrical but can’t pin point it. Anyone else have any ideas? I will be going over all the fuses for Thomas today.

What about the Throtle Position Sensor? What symptoms would that make if it was bad or needed a code erased?
Generally when the TPS goes bad it will idle all day, the pedal just acts dead beyond that.

You can pull the IPR out and rebuild/clean it. Did you check the oil level in the HPOP oil reservoir? Have you monitored the ICP level while actually driving it?

It sucks you're not getting any codes. That means its just about time to start throwing $$$ at it and replacing till you find the part that's jacked.

Does the tach needle jump up when you crank on the starter?

I put the second new CPS in and that still wasnt it.

It takes a bit to start but seems to run smooth when started but then when slowly reving the tac jumps between 1500-2000 and once i start driving it still will randomly cut off and not want to start again.

Not sure how to check the HPOP and what is the ICP?

Tac does jump a little when starting, somtimes
