New here and stumped!

2001 F-350 7.3

Had a no start issue. Replaced cam sensor still no start. HPOP pressure wasnt hitting 500 . Had a couple injector o-rings blown out. Replace all of the o-rings in all 8 injectors. Still no start! Replaced IPR. No start. Replaced new cam sensor with another new one and it started.
Now, about 2000 rpms I get a slight miss followed with a fuel knock. So I made an injector shut off tool that plugs in line with the injector harness. I shut each injector off one by one and still had the same issue. I went a head and replaced all the injectors anyways thinking there may have been a mechanical issue with one. Still does it. Fuel filter changed by the way.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Also tried a new IDM. Its like something is messing with fuel timing. Seems like the miss is no fuel then the knock is fuel at the wrong time.
Motorcraft valve cover gaskets and UVC wiring?
Had motorcraft valve cover gaskets on it and just put 2 new Dormans on it. Using a gray Napa cam sensor.
Set no codes...I have a Snap On scanner.

go back to Motorcraft UVC gaskets and UVC wiring..and Motorcraft CPS sensor.
That Dorman junk is your problem. Ford or International electronics only. Ford or International electronics only. Ford or International electronics only. Ford or International electronics only. Ford or International electronics only. Got it?

It sucks, but you did a lot of beating around the bush and spent considerable time troubleshooting on the notion that a brand new sensor can't possibly be at fault. Unfortunately that's more than 99% likely your problem. While you have the valve covers off it might not hurt to pull the injectors and give the spool valves a scrubbing with some 600 grit to eliminate a future problem. Also while you're at it jam a quarter in each of the valve cover harnesses.

Good luck!
It was the aftermarket CPS. Ran them for years with no issues so why now? It had Motorcraft VC gaskets and still had the issue. The Motorcraft CPS is gray. Where are you all getting the black sensor? Does it change the timing any?
The bad part is the cam sensor from Ford was only $22, cheaper than aftermarket.

yes

we've cut open each of the aftermarket sensors and compared them to the Ford sensors...

FWIW, the hall affect sensor pickup is NOT in the center of the face on the CPS...so when aftermarket companies move them, and are inconsistent with where they (each) locate the pickup....it can change the timing.

issues like this are why we will not ship a built (hot rod or stock) engine that we've built WITHOUT all new Motorcraft sensors, and UVC wiring.

had customers bring trucks from 12+ hours away, and all they needed was a Ford CPS sensor and/or Motorcraft UVC wiring and harnesses.

That is what I figured. I see it pretty much daily.

The original black one is pretty much non-existent. The people who do have them will not part with them.

Your best bet is the International dark gray one. The Ford light gray one is not too bad, it just always seems to throw the #8 contribution fault when testing.
What is the part # for the International one? Do any of the vendors on here sell them? Does the strength of the magnet make any difference? I've sanded a couple of light grey ones down and the magnet can pick up twice as much weight in metal washers.
Anyone who's used those junk aftermarket sensors and had their truck shut off when they turned the wipers on can vouch that there is a BIG difference between OEM and aftermarket.

International 'new' style (dark blue) sensor part # 1876736C91

Ford part # F4TZ-12K073-C
International part # 1876736C91

Some call it dark blue, others call it dark gray.
Some people here might pooh pooh on this statement but I and several others are in full agreement about it... Stay away from the Ford 'new style' sensor, it's more headache than it's worth. This is one exception to the 'everything Ford' statement and use only the International dark blue. I don't know what Ford changed inside it from the old to new but at times it makes the truck start and run like crap.

Ford wasn't trying to make the truck run good. All they cared about was that the truck would actually run and not die. More of a reliability thing. That was the problem with the original black sensor.

Not to mention all the money they have made due to the #8 cylinder contribution fault LOL

Funny you mention that. The trucks runs good with the new ford sensor but cold start ups it has a miss then clears up like you would just flip a switch. Ill get one from International. I put them in DT 466's all the time... Now they come with a shim kit.
That is most likely the dorman crap under the valve covers
