I need advice on either getting a new or good used 17* hpop and a new IPR or going with a big oil setup. The problem I'm having right now with my 15* pump and original IPR (200,000 miles on both) is I'm only getting 1500 to 1800psi at WOT which I'm reading off my new HPOP oil gauge in the cab. I'm also only seeing 1500 to 2000 psi on the gauge when I roll into the throttle just coming off a stop light, is that nomal? The injectors I'm running are made by DPS and are stage 3 hybrids 238cc. They were in the truck when I bought it so thats all I really know about them. I know everyone is going to say go with big oil but it is alot of money so I what I need to know is upgrading to a 17* going to help my problem or is big oil the only way? Also just reading through some of the threads I've read that just changing out your IPR with a new mit solve alot of my problem or is that just a mith? Any help from some of you guy that have experience with this would help alot.

P.S. I'm also only getting 13mpg and alot of black smoke with barely any throttle

Well the smoke might be because your running a stock 99 1/2 turbo..........Unless you just didnt put it in your sig......

I would just get the 17* if your worried about money

However You would benefit alot from a set of Termys.......

Yeh, sorry couldn't fit any more stuff in my sig. I running a GDS ball buster turbo or the same thing as a early TN turbo before the BB.

Will changing out the IPR help as well or is that a mith?

A healthy 17 will help, but it's not enough and that's a fact. ;)

If I can help, let me know.
I mit be hitting you up when I save up the money.
Do you know what pressures I should be seeing as I roll into the throttle as I leave a stop light? I know its a hard question, but if your half way into the throttle should it be higher then 2000psi or is that normal? What I think I'm trying to say is with big oil does the pressure slowly go up to 3200psi by the time your at WOT or does it move right up to that with a little throttle?

A lot of it depends on your tunes. I would say your 2000 number is close. Max ICP really depends on what your tuner is demanding, and when. And of course, if the pump is capable of producing that requested demand. ;)

Or your injectors are really hosed up.

Try a new IPR and let us know.

Not all 15 degree pumps are created equal. Mine was a Wednesday built pump.

Exactly. So just monitoring the HPOP is insufficient. If his IPR is at 20% duty cycle when it is putting out the 1800 psi, he may just need improved programming. However I would bet he needs more oil.

Yeh, I think mine was built on Friday around 6:05pm
I think I mit just try a new IPR first since I'll need one anyway if I go with big Oil.

Why would you need a new IPR with Big Oil? How does your truck run, overall? When my 95 was in testing with Big Oil, I used my original IPR and never had a problem.
Well I think its running as well as it can with the oil pressure I have. Do you think just cleaning the IPR will help or are IPR's the type of part when they go bad there BAD?

Do you have any trouble starting it, hot or cold? Usually, you would really know if the IPR is giving you grief, but 2K psi off idle doesn't seem normal.

Back to the original posts, have you done any other diagnostics besides the gauge monitoring (run on AE or scanner, pressurize the HPO system, etc)? Someone else said it also, you need to look at duty cycle. That I've seen, most tunes will request 40-45% DC (some higher if requested) at wide open.

Your pump could just be tired, but I'd be confirming that there is no pressure loss anywhere...

No trouble starting unless it sate outside for a couple of days in the cold MN winter weather with out being pluged in. It will start just smokes out the whole block with white smoke. I kind of figured that was because of the old glow plug, but maybe not. As far as testing with other equipment I have not and the TS chip I'm running was tuned by Beans diesel shop.

if looking for better oil try looking at dieselsites pulse system,
I am very happy with mine..check out the reviews. lot less coin to save up too.

any time I see low mpg i always check my boots, up pipes etc.. for leaks, especially on an older or high milage truck...

Last summer my EX was having a weird issue and just for the heck of it I got a new ICP sensor. While that was not the cause of my issue, I did see higher values with my snap on scanner under the same driving conditions. Pressures went from 2400 to almost 3000. And the truck seemed to run smoother than before. Not to say that is your issue, but just giving my experience on a simular topic.
