I replaced my rotted out exhaust last year, I went with the same size system, but upgraded to stainless MBRP 5 inch. I have been soaking and heating and trying for a year to get the exhaust tip off the old pipe. Now Ive given up.

I could just get the same MBRP tip, 5 inch to 6 inch, or I could go with something else. I would like to have a 5 inch tip, I dont like the look of the tip being bigger than the exhaust. Anyone have another company to go through? Ideas? Thoughts?

I'm doing a dump exhaust on mine right now. I ordered my tip off ebay for $38 shipped to the house. I haven't recieved it yet, so I can't comment on the quality. It was a stainless 5" to 6" tip, 12" long. I didn't like my pipe sticking out behind the year tire, so I removed the tailpipe section and just adding the the tip so it points towards the ground.

The main problem with mine is that without a tip, the pipe is about a 1/4 inch too short. Meaning that since it is a 45 degree exit, the back edge of the pipe is just behind the bottom pinch weld on the bed. When you hit a certain RPM (right around 70 mph) it resonates off the bed and is extreeeeeemmmmly annoying. Therefore, I need something.

I found some 5 inch stainless tips from silverline for about $40, any good? or should I still spend the money on an MBRP?

Riff Raff has a bunch of tips on there site. The Diamond Eye tips are like thirty some dollars. I can't see spending $70 or more on an exhaust tip, but that's just me.

I dont know why I didnt think to check them, Ive been buying a lot from them recently. And yes, I agree, $70 for a tip is a lot, especially when I have a perfectly good one that I paid around that for sitting in my garage. Damn rust!

Did you try using an air chisel from the inside of the tip against the edge of the exhaust pipe, when i swapped my exhaust tip from my cummins exhaust to my current exhaust i heated the tail pipe up after soaking it in pb blaster and used an air chisel to push em apart other than that ive run the diamond eye tips and theyre pretty good and mine was only $33

Yeah, Im looking at the diamond eye tips right now. I was beating it with a 5 lb sledge and still no movement. Well, the vice moved, not the tip  Now its at the point where it has started to damage the tip a little, which meant it will just irritate me. Of course, as soon as I order a new one it will slide right off

Thats good to hear, thats the kind of info I need.

Did you have to trim your exhaust to make it sit right or could you slide it up the pipe as much as needed?

I've had half success half failure with this rust seizure trick - CLR. That junk in the green spray bottle... Get it at the dollar store, and I always immerse (if possible) what I have that's frozen for about a day and then just tap it with a hammer. Like I said tho, 50% success rate. Some of the things I tried were ridiculous to even try anything less than a speedwrench but I tried it anyway

I was having the same issues with my mbrp being just too short and resonating off the bed. Got a MBRP tip (xdp signature one) for cheap from their site. but i dont think they offer the 5in 5out option. it'll probably be 5-6

As annoying as the resonating drone is, I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who experienced it.

if the old tip is 5 inch can you just use an air cutter and zip off 5 or 6 inches of it thats not rusted to the pipe or is it flush end to end? Since your at the pinch weld already without the tip youll prob only need 4 to 5 inches of the tip. It sounds gawky I know but might not turn out that bad.

I cant wait to do my 4 inch dp to straight 5 out behind the wheel as cleaning the wheel every week is getting to be bothersome with it now coming out ahead of the wheel.

:pointlaugh: Yeah, its bad enough having to clean the corner of my bumper all the time.

It will be nice to have the exhaust look a little cleaner and no more noise in the cab...well...less noise

Cut the old exhaust flush with the tip, use a sawzall and make a relief cut or two to the exhasust pipe inside the tip. Should be able to hammer the old pipe out no problem. A little heat always helps too!

I finally got my tip from Ebay. Very happy with it. I didn't think for $38 it would be very nice, but it is very well made and fit great. I like the sound of it also. I thought the exhaust would be louder in the cab dumping it like I did, but it's not bad at all. Cleaned the look of my truck up also by not having that big a$$ tailpipe sticking out.

I'm doing a dump exhaust on mine right now too. (well, soon) Don't like how low it hangs, easy to get hung up on crap off road.
