Bought the CCSB 7.3 a couple months back and was getting sporadic mpg for the first couple thousand miles....12.32 to 22.45. Finally figured how to consistently fill the tank and that range narrowed significantly.

After that I changed fuel, oil and air filters, belt, tensioners and coolant. Tranny (auto) was recently rebuilt and injectors/HPOP replaced within the last 20k. Tires are BFG 285/75/r16s Ds with 65psi on aftermarket alloys.

The following 5,068 miles I averaged 17.92 mpg. This is mixed driving 20% highway, 60% secondary roads and 20% stop and go, 10 firewood loads, and a good portion of the time with landscaping equipment in the bed. Also about 3 tanks of B20 in there.

Better than expected....I do drive like an old woman tho.

Long-term averages like this are real-world performance. One-tank or one-trip tests are not of much value.

When I want to test something I use a minimum of three tanks to get an average and look for effect.
