just finished installing 38r up pipes and a modded pump from joey, definately has to crank like twice as long to start....anyone esle with a modded pump notice this or have any idea why?

I always had a slightly longer crank on my truck so I never noticed a difference, but my friend has a noticeably longer crank on his truck after installing my modded HPOP.

I live in CO high country off the grid which means I never plug my trucks in. My 99 with the Terminator fires right up in the winter and runs fine after a couple romps. I will say, it seems to start better in the Extreme program. As far as longer crank times, I have not noticed that issue, mine fires right up.

Did you run it hard to purge the air out after installing the pumps?

If it is barely turning over, your batteries or starter are weak.

Are your GP's and GPR working?

well when its -40 and I cant plug in it doesnt take long for the cranking to slow right down, but I just changed batteries the other day so I should be alright. it usually starts decent. and i dont have dual pumps, its a single modded pump, and I havent really gotten to drive it yet....

Yea, -40 does tend to shut almost everything down. My 06 TDI started fine though after a couple cycles of the GP's.

Ok, if you havent driven it, it still has air in it. This will cause exactly your problem. You need to take it out and run it for 20 miles doing consecutive WOT runs. This will purge the air out of the HPO system.

My point is, I don't think it's air in the system that is causing this issue. Also, I don't the OP to get mixed signals since there are two products offered by Joey. So I pointed out the difference, that's all.

I'm thinking it's bored, stroked or something to increase volume or pressure. I'm not an hydraulic engineer so I can't be certain. All I know is that it's supposed to increase oil pressure by approximately 300psi over a stock 17° hpop. I've pondered if this increase in size somewhere means it takes more time to initially build the pressure and causes this issue. I doubt I'm right.

Ive had my modded 17* in for a long time so I know there is no air left in the system, I also installed stage 2 injectors, new batteries and a modded IDM at the same time so I had no idea what could have cuased the slightly longer cranks but now I know, learn somethin new every day

Ok I will say this there is a fix for the extended crank. But it comes at a cost of icp pressure. The last data logs i saw were about 2-300 psi less @ WOT. That said it is a modded 17* modded being the key word unfortuneatly this is some thing a few of us live with to have more icp on top. If you are unhappy with it please send joey an email

I had extended crank issues when I had the BTS Big Oil system installed. Brian told me that he wasn't concerned even when I told him that it kept doing it. He said that by the time I got home (Motel in Branson MO), it would clear up. Next morning I fired it up and it was back to normal.

i noticed a longer crank to start. i find it a little annoying. i will be pulling my modded 17* pump out and going a different route.

joey how long does it take you to do the needed fix?

No I dont work for joey LMFAO. But he is my friend and we do work toghter on a few things he has been a big help to me and my business. I do like to answer peoples ?'s so he doesnt have to because as soon as he chimes in the sharks get loose and try to eat him:blah:
It's funny to me how small, meddium and big oil can get to be such a pissing contest. there is so much room in the market for all of the big oil guys so why all the BS? Sure we all like to chearlead for our favorite but the bashing is uncalled for. I belive the biggest problem that the big oil guys have is this.
As soon as there pump/s leave there shops they have no control over the install of said pump/s so it someone touqres some thing down wrong or doesnt clean it/prep well enof and it leaks or whatever. Its off to the net to $hit all over them this is not fair to any of the big oil guys.
sorry for the rant

Higher ICP isn't a good thing or the inj..as stated by inj builders that I trust and don't do squat for aditional HP...old news.

So I guess with this new pump ya can't have your cake and eat it to?

Reading all of this, would I be right in saying the dual pump option is better than the single modded one? Or are the duals also modded for the added pressure?

Just trying to learn here guys. I've considered this modded pump thing for my stock injectors and to continue on with some Rosewood stage 2's or other hybrid setup later on.

Thanks
Dave

The decision for what big oil to go with is IMO this.....
Fitment (crap you have to change to install said big oil)
Eventual power goals (biggest injector size you will ever run and oil demands for said injectors)
Primary use for truck (does said big oil choice shear oil and cause more frequent oil changes on a mostly street truck)
