it will be laggier, never ran the qssb so not sure how much laggier. It will support enough hp to bend forged rods. You will need upgraded valve springs also.

I did not know I needed upgraded Valve Springs.

I have head studs but they are not installed.

How fast does the KASB spool up compared to the QSSB?

I want something that spools up as fast or faster then the QSSB but kicks ass on the top end as well. What turbo would that be?

thanks,
Andrew

a turbo that flows good up top and supports alot of hp is not going to spool as well on the bottom.
Is there something that spools close to the QSSB that will support the top end as well? If I get the turbine housing ceramic coated will that make much of a difference?

thanks,
Andrew

GT42r? Only thing I can compare it to is the GT38 turbo I had. I dont notice any difference in spool up but it feels like it pulls a bit harder in the lower rpms than the 38, and then when the rpms come up a smidge man it builds boost fast and pulls really hard.

thats good to know because isn't the spool up on a 38 instant?
How much is it for a GT42r? Does include a mounting kit? How much hp are you making with the 42?

thanks,
Andrew

Just get a smaller boost gauge. Like a 0-15psi one. It'll make the turbo look like it's spooling up ridiculously fast...:swordfight:

I don't think you can get a huge high flowing turbo that is gonna spool instantly, you have to give up one for another.

Yea the Gt38r spools quick. The 42 is spendy, about 2k retail and that does not include a mounting kit. You have to make your own or have one custom built for about another 2k. Have not dynoed with the new turbo yet, made about 460hp with my setup and the 38. Will be interesting to see if I get any hp increase with just swapping the turbo even though that was not the goal, was just looking to drop EGT's a bit and back pressure. Egt's dropped 200 to 250 degrees at wide open.

to have large amounts of air on the top you have to sacrifice the bottom. it depends on what rpm you want the turbo to light at and how many cfm you want to push. its a give and take. but i sincerely doubt the gt42 lights as quick as the 38r.

It would be nice if it lit at 1500 rpms or close to that. The QSSB lights at 1700-1800 rpms. I want more airflow then the QSSB as it is not cleaning up all the smoke

Bigr, my 42 is the smaller version since my truck is just a daily driver and although I dont have as much experiance as most people on here, I've only run the 38 and now the 42, I just recently took the 38 off my truck to install the 42. I dont feel much if any difference in lowend spool up, under 1800 rpm, it does however feel a little stronger, but above 1800 rpm it pulls hard and builds boost scary, to me anyway, fast. Any time your up in the north west give me a shout and you can drive it and give me your opinion since I dont have much to compare it to.

the only way you can get a quick turbo spool up a big power on the top end is to go compound....

i want my truck to make big power with virtually no smoke... stealthy :D...

thats why i'm building the compound kit...

I have been looking for someone to give me a good description of how fast the QSSB lights.

Are you saying it will have a few pounds of boost, then shoot up good and hard at 1700-1800 or that it has basically nothing until 1700-1800?

Will it make 3 to 5 lbs. of boost at 1500 RPM?

At 1700-1800 its around 7-8 lbs.

At 1500 most times its 0 or 2 lbs if going up a hill

Between 1500 rpms and 1700 rpms there is a good amount of lag but that could be due to the weight of my truck (10,500 lbs) If I shift into underdrive there is no lag or if I accelerate fast from a stop their is no lag it just hauls a$$

If I were to go with compounds what should be the small and large turbo? Give me all the details. I need instant spoolup and no smoke unless I ask for it :D

thanks,
Andrew
