I've got a friend with an '08 and a manual who is wanting to change his trans fluid. The owner's manual only lists Motorcraft Manual Transmission Fluid for use in the trans, but he wants to go with a higher quality fluid. What is the spec for type of fluid for the manuals in these trucks?

From everything I've been able to find the fluid is simply ATF. I've been told the ZF-6 manual in the '08 specs the same fluid as the ZF-6 transmissions in earlier models of trucks. The earlier models use ATF in the manual transmissions, which suprises me that they use something so thin, but that's what Ford specs.

Full synthetic is what they take. So any full synthetic ATF should work.

I couldn't tell you that. The only '08 I've driven was a CC 4x4 F-450 Dually with an auto, and it felt like a dog...especially when I had just gotten out of my truck.
