So I was driving the 02 excursion today (finally got my turn) and getting on the interstate I was doing about 50 mph and did a nice easy 1/2 - 3/4 accel pedal position to 75 and it made like a loud whooshing noise when I let back out of it. I got on the interstate 3 times tonight and it did it every time, wife said its been doin that too.
I know nothing about wastegates, could it have been the wastegate opening.

Nope thats just a turbo fart, (turbo stall) its just the noise you hear when you let off the throttle and the boost has nowhere to go except back out the turbo. Harmless for the most part. Tymar filters as well as AFE intakes are known for being loud. But if it sounds like a pressure cooker then you have turbo surge. ATS housing is the only cure for that.

So my diesel has gas? Yeah not very funny. Uh how much for an ats housing, anyone else make one cheaper that doesnt say ATS on it?

Also is it mainly a SD thing cause Ive never heard my obs do it, but the engine in my obs seams to be a bit louder so maybe Ive never heard it?

Nothing to worry about. It has always done it but the restrictive stock air filter did not let you hear it. It's normal.

Ok thanks guys, Im not to up on the superduty turbo as far as how wastegates work and turbo surge, Im not totally concerned bout those things because I dont plan on towing or getting as deep into this as my obs, I jsut did the exhaust intake and edge to wake it up a bit.

YeaH it does, Im not complaining at all but I think the in cab noise is louder from the intake than the exhaust. Dosent bother me at all, Id like to take the sound material off the hot side pipe but the wife said no, she said it whistles loud enough!:doh: shell hardly ride in the obs anymore.

I like the whoosh. It means the intake flows more. You can hear it even louder on the passengers side in my obs truck. Tell her to listen to an 18 wheeler when it shifts, same noise differant pitch and tone.

Maybe check your up pipes for leaks and intake hoses, clamps etc. If you can't hear a whoosh @ shift points with 1/2 to 3/4 throttle you might have a leak.

I think it sounds cool, kinda like a really big ricer. I remember when I first drove mine after putting my AFE on , took it down the Eway and it did that I laughed so hard I almost put the truck in the ditch at 70 LOL

Sounds cool but don't do it all the time I was told it ain't cool to make them "stall" like that mine does it only if i get off the gas too qwick . On a diesel it ain't as bad as on a gasser I have a huge tial BOV for the stang since it has a throttle blade it is a must at least I think it is, I cannot decellerate gradually so as to not stall the turbo. I have a few parts mitsu. turbos with broken shafts from my dsm days.

Diamond Star Motors biatch. I still want another 90 or 91 eclipse GSX someday I just hated working on them(timing belts,water pumps) and the transmissions are so damned fragile.
