Just noticed my water pump leaking out the weep hole. Other than the obvious (water pump, distilled water, antifreeze), what else do I need.

And, does any one have the link for the OEM water pump off E-bay for like 70 bucks.

Hoses are new. Belt and tensioner is only like 1 year old.

Thanks.

Thanks Maintain. Just what I thought, pretty straight forward. Fan is the bugger. Hope it holds up until Saturday.

Might wanna obtain a new thermostat housing while yur at it. The OEM are cheap stamped steel that tend to rust out. The pump will probably hold out for sometime. They seem to puke for a bit, then quit and then puke again.

Get a piece of 1/4 " flat stock and cut a notch in it big enough to slip over the fan bolts. You don't need to hold much to break the clutch loose. You just need something solid. The strap wrench don't work.

Thanks. I have a tool almost exactly what you described. Made it to change bearings on a lawnmower deck. I was planning an a little modification to make it work. Thanks for the tip on the t-stat housing. That's exactly what I was looking for. I knew there was something I was forgetting.

I reused my thermostat, but would suggest a new one b/c sometimes they can be difficult to get out.

Water pumps can leak for months and only drop a little bit - or they could start gushing.

Carry a few gallons of water and a few gallons of coolant with you that way if it start gushing you can pull over, put it in, and then get a few miles down the road to safety if needed.

Got five gallons of water, if it starts puking bad, I don't care about coolant, I would piss in the degas if I had to.

Blew a head gasket in an old Nissan once, noticed the temp gauge rising, pulled over and filled radiator from a drainage ditch. Nursed it home stopping every fifteen miles to fill up with water. Never overheated it. Got home replaced the head gasket and put another 150K with no problems.

Sounds like you won't have a problem - good luck! :ford:

Well, it's your fault, you jinxed me, LOL. Used 20 gallons of water to make it home 15 miles. At least now I don't have to flush it out.

Going to replace it tomorrow morning. Luckily, I was paying attention to the gauge and it never overheated. Even if I had not been paying attention, the fan coming on would have woke me up. I was wondering if it worked. It does sound like a 747 trapped under the hood. Luckily I was carrying a five gallon jug of water.

Good thing - was it because of us that you were carrying that water around???

Before you do that, you might try this method first.

Keeping the serpentine belt on, put a pipe wrench on the fan clutch nut, and with the handle of the wrench sticking straight up, strike the handle quickly and firmly a few times with a hammer.

That should knock the nut loose lickity-split, smooth as butter.
