i live in CT and it gets pretty cold here in the winter, can i leave the block heater plugged in all night? or is that bad. i also go to my uncles house in VT and it is as far up before canada as it gets.

ya when it gets cold, i just leave it plugged in. it may sit for days before i drive it. but when i need it, it's ready

like they said above plug it in with a good xstension cord shorter the better and use a gfi plug in.

GFCI
Ground Fault, Circuit Interrupter.
It measures the current throught the hot and return wires, and if the currents don't match up very closely (as in a short to the ground wire, or short through you) it cuts them both off to prevent injury.
