Jax' 99 F350 7.3L Truck rebuild . . . .

Greetings, all;

I have been looking for a HD - any make - to pull a bigger travel trailer but all I find is a lot of people too super-proud of their vehicles with 200k+ mileage. Therefore, I bought this to build my own - the engine is a literal basket case...

1999 FORD F-350 SD LARIAT Ext Cab LWB 2WD
7.3L V8 OHV 16V Powerstroke . . . Orig mileage 245083
5 speed 6 speed manual transmission

I want to build the entire power train - I suspect the rear is not limited slip - and want to fix everything Ford did not do right when it was built. I want to make it as efficient as possible in AZ's 120F heat to the northern regions.

I have rebuilt small block chevys, two motorcycle engines, but this is my first time on Ford and rebuilding a diesel (although I have worked on them).

Thank you all for all the wisdom posted on this website.

Best recommendations for aftermarket upgrades?

Let me price out what it’ll cost for us to ship you one. It’ll be in the morning.

No problem, thanks a Million! @JustAFenceBuilder

In the meantime, I am taking the Beast to a friend / retired mechanic I trust to do the brakes. I have too much to do to work on it right now. Besides, he has awesome special tools.
Trying to kick my arse and get the driver's door panel fixed. At the same time, fix the wire on the speaker in the door. Cold wind blowing from the mountain is a huge dissuader.

Yeah, I’ve wanted to change by track bar out for a factory one, but the weather has been off putting

Havarti or Mozzarella, please!
I did, however, get the break in the baby gate fixed by welding it! Stupid dog.

Oh, yeay. I have the new trailer plug, and it is really nice.

And I have 20mph winds gusting above 30 and laying out in the blowing dirt ain't gonna happen.

Can you believe a four-year-old Ford F350 Platinum dually is going for $76,500? Holy house payment.

a new one is $96 grand.
the 2022 F550 4 door 4 wheel drive we got last march was $121,000 and change with the 12 foot utility body installed..
the "tommy gate" was $10 grand, and the on board air compressor was 11 grand.
add in the fuel tank, pump, cab protector, and 4 corner video cameras with DVR and total price was almost $150,000

All of a sudden my $800 a month to roll my truck down the road doesn’t seem so bad.

i always swore i would not pay more for a car/truck than i paid for my house.
i got very close though last year when i bought the 18 exploder for $32 grand.
the house was $40 grand 28 years ago.

Once you adjust for inflation, that puts you at about $85k. You’ve got plenty of margin for a new truck.

Hi, all!

Thanks,@JustAFenceBuilder - quality trailer plug cord installed.

I'm going to send in an oil sample on from the Beast. If it doesn't show unusual wear, then I will replace the #3 injector.

Don't know why I didn't think of that before.

Because these damn trucks always have something to teach us.

Harness install go as easy as marketed?

Easy to install but not matched to truck or trailer. So, what else is new?

Took the Beast on a trip to Quartzsite, AZ - 320mi one way.

She is fun to drive until you get stuck in traffic on the freeway.
what’s the longest y’all have gone between oil changes?
Because I completely forgot about it and I’m at 11,xxx 😂😂😂

I guess I’ll definitely get that done this week.
Would not recommend that with a heui, also a couple quarts does not get changed when you change your oil.
