Foggy memory induced speculation -
Wasn't there a theory/fault/probability that a bad or low quality CPS would give random misfire codes, and fail contribution tests? I remember reading that somewhere but no clue where or when.
Jax, is there a piece of trash stuck on the magnet on the CPS?

Just random thoughts. What do y'all think?

The #8 cylinder misfire often shows up in these engines. If you look at the firing order #6 fires right before #8 which can leave #8 a little starved for oil. The reduced pressure causes #8 to push less that the commanded amount of fuel which typically shows up as a #8 contribution code.

Thanks, CJ -- do you think that would still be the case with the Adrenaline HPOP? I thought it was supposed to ensure the oil pressure was good throughout.

I haven't pulled it, but it was a brand new Motorcraft 16k miles ago.

Given the light blue smoke when it's cold, I'm pretty concerned about my engine. :(

I remember something about different colors working better in different trucks. Hopefully Tom remembers.
As for the blue cold smoke I think that may be this new [email protected] fuel. All of mine do it, 7.3, 12 valve, my big Cummins, my Mack 673, all of em. I think it may be old tech meeting new fuel. If it clears up when it warms up I wouldn't sweat it. The only one in the yard that doesn't do it is my Dad's 24 valve.

Thanks, Aloysius, but I still have the codes.

My Ford buddy suggested I take it to Tucson to run the codes on their specialty machine. Maybe even do the compression tests. [Yes, I am still paranoid that the run-away damaged the engine.] We don't trust the local Ford dealer, so therefore Tucson.

What do you guys think?

Well, carp! The dealers in Tucson want me to leave my vehicle. Appointments mean nothing except that is when you have to be there. No guarantee when they will get to it.

Not going to do that.

Has anyone ever compared FORScan to the FORD "IDS"?

Second question -- Has anyone heard of the IMPROVED INTERNATIONAL CPS FOR 94-03 7.3L FORD POWERSTROKE DIESEL?

Wondering if the International might be better?
  • If you own a 7.3L Powerstroke, you may already be aware of the shortcomings of the stock Cam Position Sensor (CPS). It is common for the CPS to fail causing the engine to run poorly or to stop running altogether and it usually happens at the most inconvenient times, such as in traffic or pulling a load so many owners carry a spare CPS.
  • This International Harvester CPS can be installed in the Powerstroke engine and will make the engine run quieter, smoother while increasing performance and mileage!
  • Provides a different signal (changes timing from standard CPS) to the Ford computer which results in a more accurate injection of fuel and better running engine with easier starts!
  • Works on all 94-03 7.3L Powerstroke Diesel.
  • Performance Results vary by applications!
  • International Part Number: IHC#1876736C91

Y'know, I keep telling everyone else to check their wiring, but I haven't checked mine. After all, I unplugged the UVCH when I was doing the freaking stubborn new HP oil lines. AITA who screwed up her truck?

Y'know, I am awfully glad I have a 99.

Those newer models have some PROBLEMS.

And no, I haven't checked my wiring, yet. Cold and windy. I blame Colorado.

EDIT - It is freaking SNOWING!

Ha! I'm too smart to work outside; I certainly wouldn't expect it of her!

Cold strong winds. Damn.

Does anyone know why these stinkers don't last long? My Beast's one-year-old set already have cracks in the rubber!

The lines from the boot to the spider, green and red.

The rubber boots crack.
