So,
Idled until warm, about 10 min -- changed the oil
Drove 30 miles, never got above 50 - changed the oil
. . . No shiny in the oil sample, by the way.
Now drive 100, change filter?
Then drive 500, change oil and filter . . .

Okay. Anyone think different?

Try to get a lubrafiner or fleetguard filter if you can for those changes

God, I hope so. We'll never know the long term effect on reliability.

I just hope the turbo failure was a one-off for KC Turbos. They are not going to refund the difference between the $1590 KC38r and the $1190 KC300x.

I find the turbo lag in the 300x to be obvious (not unexpected). I didn't let it go over 1psi, though, yet.

They are supposed to refund the cost of the KC 300x, so I am waiting on that.

Researching, but not finding hard facts on these filters. I would expect to find stats like "filters inorganic material up to 15 microns and organic materials to 20 microns"
or words to that effect. Nothing. Crickets chirping.

I've had two turbos go on me on heavy duty trucks. One the turbine just blew out the exhaust, towed it, new turbo, no problem.

Second one i split the compressor, shards went through the intercooler and into the head, took out the head on a series 60 diesel.......

On both immediately shut the engine off.

A few weeks ago the guy Im working with exhaust caught fire, it started to run away when he tried to shut it off, then the turbo was on fire. They lost the engine.

Yeah you are lucky and good.

What’s wrong with a motorcraft filter?
Motorcraft filter is a good filter, these are better.
@tjctransport can explain it, he is the one got me using the better filters on my diesels.
I do use the Motorcraft filter exclusively on my gas trucks

Sounds good. I’m curious, I know damn little about filters.

I’m using a Cat 1R-0716 most of the time. But I’ve got that Cat hookup so I can get them for like $12 apiece.
I also am running cat DEO. I pay $5 a gallon for it 😁

that gets 5-30 synthetic, because that is what ford put in it from new.

i don't remember. that was years ago when there was a problem with a lot of the car style filters.
i want to say something about bad bypass valves in the filter?

First oil sample analysis -- which is why the unit id and the averages are the same.

Not bad!

What Tom said. REALLY glad to hear you dodged a bullet. i'd be more than fine keeping and running this truck for miles and miles. Let's hope the turbo debacle is over.
