You can turn either way either engine. The valves open, and close.
If you cant turn it over by hand with the plugs or glow plugs in, something else is wrong

Dude, you must be super strong. When that piston hits top dead center with both valves closed, that is a lot of pressure to overcome!

I had my wife turn over the 4.9 with a breaker bar on the f 350 when I was trying to get the frozen clutch unbolted. I was holding the transmission from turning with it. She owns an operated a towing/ scraping business, but isn't the hulk.

Idk.
I never had any trouble. Sometimes to find tdc, you have to turn them over by hand

I would have to go down and get a pic in the morning. Raining, and almost dark now.
Probably too far away to see in this pic

Jax, Do not put those fuel line brackets back on!!! Remove and throw them away!! You don’t need them. These will eventually cause a pin hole leak in the line over time and vibration and leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere! Hope you have AAA. Happened to me.

The front one by the fuel filter is the ICP sensor. The other 2 are plugs. And definitely throw the fuel line brackets out. If you worried about them rubbing on something shove a piece of fuel line over them

I noticed how it rubbed. I wrapped friction tape under the bracket. I will happily remove it.

ICP = Injection Control Pressure?

The shop put plugs where they are supposed to be. I am guessing the Oil Pressure sensor goes in one -- which one?

And is this right for the oil pressure switch location?

I face a two-day + delay every time I have to order parts. I still need the donut gasket from the exhaust manifold to the up-pipes, right?

Jax,

It is universal common knowledge don't ya know ;) (it's like my forklift... everyone needs a forklift). I would hazard that you are at the point of mounting the turbo and intake. The bracket at the top center of your picture is what supports the intake tubes so I would think that is the one being referenced.

Thanks, CJ!

I also found what looks like the bracket in @heavydoc 's engine picture. If so, it should go something like the below. Question - does it mount on the valve cover stud bolts? If so, which ones?

Is that on the passenger side frame rail
Hi! @heavydoc This was the two wires, primary yellow, one with black stripe and one with red stripe.

It goes to a socket and yes, I believe that is the passenger side frame rail. Do you know what it is?

Jax,

On my 97 it attaches to the upper front valve cover bolts.. I think you could put your turbo in place and verify.
