I like to cruise on the highway like 65-75 on I95 to work in the Bronx. The issue I have is when I let off the accelerator, the truck pulls down to like 50 mph, then I gotta get back on it to get back up to speed, I can feather the pedel to keep it from coming on. I never tow with the truck and nore do I plan to. I also been looking into ridding the EBV with the pedistal without one on it and the plug to prevent a code from it not being there. Just thought I'd ask you guys for your opinion on the matter before I start beating a dead horse and paying for it as well....

There is a good chance that it is the EBPV that is causing this. What is the outside temperature when this happens? How warm is the engine when this is happening?

If your engine is not getting warm enough to keep the EBPV from cycling you may have a thermostat that is opening before it is supposed to. The stock thermostat should open around 195 degrees.

No, the EBPV is not an exhaust brake unless you modify it to be one by adding a manual switch or purchase an aftermarket kit. It's sole purpose from the factory is to help heat the engine after a cold morning start by putting a load on the engine when it closes off the exhaust. It only activates under these conditions:

- Ambient air temps must be below 45*F
- Engine oil temps below 165*F
- Low load, low speed operation or idling only
- EBPV can activate during extended idling periods where engine oil temps are below 165*F, even if ambient air temps are a little above 45*F. In this case the truck must be in park for autos, or neutral with e-brake on for manuals, and usually takes 5 minutes or more of idle time to activate.
- If the EOT sensor or EBP sensor is shorted or is an open loop, the EPBV will be disabled.

On edit: These trucks are heavy, sit higher, and the PSD's run much higher compression than gas engines. Normal engine compression braking happens when you are on the highway and let off the pedal.

there wasnt a mod to make it act as a exhaust brake that I know of. It was at full operating temp so the valve was not closing for warmup. Thanks again for your input.

I know those things can get sticky when they get older. My buddy's late 94 was so bad even in 3rd gear it wouldn't want to go over 35mph. It's more of a pain than anything else. Even while your steady crusing at 55mph it will shut. Push the accelerator down & it will open back up then close in a couple of mins again. So you might as well be driving with an exhaust brake in the winter. Garrett at http://www.puredieselpower.com sells a code fooler if you decide to unplug it.

when I disconnected mine It stayed shut. but Ive got problems with my pedistal. Leeks bad and the valve would close when it shouldnt. Just took the end of the rod off so the pedistal and the valve are not connected any more. Just till I have time to pull the pedistale and gut it.
