My '06 6.0 is sock with the exception of a 4" exhaust (no cat or muffler) and K&N intake. It really doesn't black smoke at all - however out of nowhere last night it was smoking pretty good, I had a friend driving behind me and he even called me to let me know I was dumping smoke out (since it usually doesn't).
Now, what I would like to know is; Is this a sign of something ready to go wrong? The truck runs great, shifts great, spools correctly, etc. Maybe EGR? Turbo? Injector(s)? I plan on deleing the EGR here soon.
Correction - according to this link; Diesel Technician Society - my needle should be just above the 4th hash mark, however it is only getting to between the 20psi hash mark, and the 4th hash mark.
Looks like the turbo is dirty. Probably. Maybe...?
Sticky turbo is a good possibility, but on my truck my boost gauge never gets as high as the one in that picture. That's showing 30+ psi and a stock truck should never get there.
Well apparently I took the video upside down..... But you get the point. This seem low to you? Thanks for everybody's help! Trying to decide if I need to tear the turbo down and clean it out or not... Also, has since stopped smoking.
