Sunday morning me and my brother put the truck on the car lift, drain 25 gal. of fuel, pull the fuel tank, replace the entire fuel tank sending unit. We then put everything back together, and put fuel back in the tank. The gauge was still on empty.... I said screw it, im tired of messing with it. By the time I got home, I had about 3/8 of a tank. I fill it up that evening, gauge reads Full. Excellent. NOT. After about 80 miles of driving, im already reading under the 3/4 of a tank mark. I know my truck doesn't get that bad of mileage. What gives? Is there a reset or something, or does the new unit have to "learn" what is full and what is empty. P.S. I have the 39 gallon tank.

Sorry for the long post.
Clayton.

Anyone have any Ideas?

As I was driving, I thought that maybe my return fuel line might have came loose and was draining the return fuel on the ground but that's not the case either.

This is pissing me off..........

My truck usually goes about 80-90 miles before it shows 3/4, but then it usually stays around there and drops slowly down to 1/2, goes a little quicker but still slowly to 1/4 then until it's at like 1/8 it barely moves then all of a sudden it's empty

I have the 29 something gallon tank though.

I would check your wires running back from the sending unit. What was the old one doing to need replaced?
I thought it was broken somehow, but when I pulled it, It was just stuck in the "up" position. But since I had it all apart, I went ahead and put the new sending unit in anyways. There is only one plug, and it is plugged in. There is nothing else to complicate. I don't get it. I have 120 miles on the tank right now, and the gauge is sitting at 1/2 a tank.
