Looking for a link for a DIY IDM mod

I was modding another IDM for someone tonite and it was very different from all the ones I have come across. Out of 30 or so that I have done, this was a strange site. it was the normal IDM 100 but it was laid out very different from all the others.... Weird.
If you do it yourself, make sure you dont trash the cover when you try to remove it. Most of the ones I have seen that guys do are trashed. If you want to, call me and I will walk you through it. My info is on the 911 help network thread on the first page.

Is this mod only for the OBS trucks?

Nope... I have done them for all years of PSD's. Any IDM from a 7.3 will work in any other 7.3 but the SD's have more voltage in stock condition. There are 3 types of IDM's. IDM 100, IDM 110, and IDM 120. That states the output voltage to the injectors. The IDM mod raises the output voltage to around 140 for all the IDM's. The only difference is that the 120's use a different resistor than the others.

Cool, looks pretty easy. I read through it, but didnt notice, is there link to the "high grade resistor" to where to get it. I usually get my stuff from the old radio shack. I aint sceered.:lookaround:
I been screwing with e-lektron-ic stuff since I got my first screwdriver.:D

Dont get the resistors from RS... Not very good quality. I only install resistors from www.digikey.com but you can PM member MADVAN and he will send you what you need. I am almost out and need to order more, otherwise I would send it to you.

Everytime I read an IDM thread, it reminds me of the one I loaned out...........:(:badidea:

Yes, there is an IDM-100 that has a very weird layout. I think its for some of the very first 94 powerstrokes. I've only come across 1 in the 10 or 20 I've modded so far. It still uses the same resistor, just located in a different spot is all. Its not hard to find, only bright baby blue one in there.

As for getting the cover off, I usually try to slice a razor knife all around the edge as best I can, then I get 3 or 4 of those little flat screwdrivers, and starting from the corner on the connector end, start working it under. Be careful about the plastic connector housing, as they can crack. And yes, try not to bend the crap out of the top cover plate. You want it as flat as possible to put back together.

I've got two IDM 120's in a box under my computer desk that I bought off ebay like 2 years ago. Just havnt got around to modding them yet.

Hey Daryl...:rockwoot: That is what I thought about the vintage of this IDM I am modding. That is a bugger to get to for soldering. I dont use screw drivers. I use a 1.5 inch putty knife to pry it open after I cut the seal with a razor. I have never bent a lid out of all the ones I have done.

OK, I got a question for ya. Increasing the voltage should decrease the amount of current draw. I would think that it might decrease the chances of burned wiring harnesses at the connectors. Any ideas? Anyone seen any other problems with this mod?

Elecronically that makes total sense. And as for this mod failing or causing a failure, in all the years I have known of this mod and have done them, I have never heard of an IDM mod that failed. I have seen IDM's go bad but not one that was properly modified.
