Sitting here at work board out of my mind, I got to thinking, (scary thought I know).

Does the AIT sensor in the intake Y play into any part of tunning? Is there a table somewhere that looks at the temps and makes adjustments?

I know in gas motors, it does play a large role with timing and such. (Yes I know these are not gas motors, so keep the stupid comments too yourself.)

Thanks.

From the shop manual
"The IAT signal provides air temperature information to the PCM. The PCM uses the air temperature information to operate the Exhaust Back-Pressure (EBP) system and to determine the cold idle setpoint. During long idle periods at cold ambient temperatures, the setpoint will increase engine rpm"

Manifold Air Temp sensor in the intake "Y" plays a role in timing from my limited knowledge and discussions with a few people in the "know."

With hotter MAT temps in a compression ignition engine the temp needed for spontaneus combustion will occur quicker so what do you think happens? I think the PCM pulls advance.

IAT is another sensor and as posted I believe only comes into play with the cold ambient air package...EBPV, GPs and intake air heater.

I had also heard that IAT has a table in the tuning.

3:45 in the morning, brain doesn't work so well.

So, now that we have the correct sensors, the one at the air cleaner, Forever known as the "IAT" pretty much does nothing for tunning, and is found on PS motors from 94 to at least 07 in some fashion.

Then we have the manifold air temp sensor, not found on the 94 to 97 model PS.

After a few more responces, (and hopefully a few from our tunners out there) You will be able to figure where I am going with this.........

.....

I was unaware that OBS's didn't have a MAT sensor. Being that they don't have a CAC the MAT temps are probably more stable and the engineers felt no need for having dynamic changes to "advance"??

My conversations with Bill back when I first got Minotaur were that MAT affected advance and IAT is used in conjuction with EOT for the cold ambient air package.

Also...Bill stated it's not that big of an influence on timing...not like EOT.

"Manifold Air Temperature (MAT) Sensor
Note: The MAT sensor is not used on E-Series models.

The PCM receives an intake air temperature from the manifold intake air (MAT) sensor. Based on this signal the PCM adjusts fuel and timing. The sensor is located in the compressor manifold downstream from the intercooler."

Your intake air temp sensor was in the OEM airbox.

Betcha matt, bill, jody etc can tell you how much of a role it plays
