My Hpop is getting weak so im going to go ahead and replace it now. The HPOP is $850.00 at ford. Should i get the stock ford pump or is there an aftermarket pump that is better and will last longer out there? My mods arent extensive just Bullydog exhaust from turbo back , DP F6 Tuner , AFE stage II intake and custom built transmission. Just would rather spend the money once and not make a mistake like i have done a couple times on this truck.

Thanks Donnie

First you can get them online and from sponsors for under $600 so no do not get it from Ford.

I would suggest either a Adrenaline from Diesel site or a Modded 17 from Terminator. They are both cheaper than ford and both flow more.

What they said.
Do you tow,pull race etc
What year truck...
Def do not go with the dealer unless you like being raped.
850 and your half way to full out big oil,

If you want to improve your truck, call bob at dieselsite, joey at terminator, beans diesel performance, swamps ,or cale at bts.

Give them all a shout, listen to their sales pitch.
They will tell you what you need to know to make an informed decision.

If cheap but good is what you want, bob and joey can prob sell you good tested regunits or even a new bosh pump if money is real tight.

Hpops are one of the most heated threads, so just go straight to the source
See who makes you warm and fuzzy. All of those are top knotch service kinda guys, and won't leave you hangin.

Ps couple nice deals in the classifiedd as well.

Donnie,
Are you sure it's getting weak? Ford dealerships are quick to diagnose anything as a bad HPOP and regulator combo. I can help you figure out if you really need a new HPOP at all.

Thanks for all the replies guys , i think im going to go with the adrenaline ... ive read great things about BOB and just the fact that he replied to this thread and tried to help me trouble shoot instead of sell a product .... shows hes a stand up guy.

BOB
It actually ist at a Ford dealership , its at a diesel specialty place called Diesel Injection Specialist here locally. When i brought it in to them it had a whine that i assumed was the power steering pump. They called me today and said the pressure was all over the charts and it was whining .... also they said the icp sensor was bad. So im gonna get a adrenaline from you. I called your shop today and got the recording about you catching up. So what do you think and should i order online or by phone?

Thanks Donnie

How many vendors try to actually make sure you NEED their product and to the point of helping you first try to fix what is wrong. Sure is nice for the customer so they do not spend the money and find out they still have a issue and have already spent whatever amount that did not go toward fixing what was actually wrong. Its that kind of behavior that wins over customers and keeps them

Donnie, stay away from the Dealerships.

A couple questions first:
1) How many miles on the truck?
2) What year is the truck
3) What caused you to think you have an HPOP issue? Getting any codes?
4) Do you have access to a Scan Tool or Auto E to monitor what the pump is actually doing?

Thanks,

The whining and the guys at the diesel shop said so , i assume there
was a code due to the fact they said my icp was bad
4) Do you have access to a Scan Tool or Auto E to monitor what the pump is actually doing?
No i dont , i have auto E on the way but i dont at the moment. I assumed the diesel specialists would have a scanner ... but im learning they spend others people money quite easily and throw parts at it.

Diagnosing these things involves so much back and forth, and it's the little things that get get said that YOU think don't mean anything, that tell the whole story. Ask Donnie ;)

As I told Donnie, feel free to call me and we'll try to figure it out. The tech line rings to my cell and I'll have it with me all weekend.

Donnie, get AutoE and check a few things. ICP, Duty Cycle, and Pulse Width to name a few. Get some data logs and we'll see what's up.

When you say ICP was bad, are you talking about the sensor? Or just low pressure? You may have a bad sensor. Unplug the harness and see if there is any oil inside the sensor(it happens a lot, leaky sensors send false data to the PCM)). If so, replace the sensor first.

That is where I would start, before throwing money at this truck.

I have been very surprised as some of the PW people have gotten when they do some data logging. SOme seem way too long. As I do nto fully understadn all the cross effects that each thing has on the others is there a way that the PW can change becasue of a weak pump or bad IPC etc o is it controled by the tuning. So if someone has say a 6.0-8.0 pulse width from data logging would something other than the tuning be the casue or is it what the tuners tune is actually calling for, end of story?

I had Dennis @ Itp scan & datalog mine and found mine was weak with dp tunes. Bought an adrenaline and it runs better that ever. With my tired 15* in 60T it would only hold 1950# now it peaks @ 3250 and holds @ wot 3000-3100. Rus good and pulls hard all the way to 3800rpm. I can't say anything about Joey's pump I haven't tried one and do not know anyone here in the Phx area that has. But I like Bob's so far.

I do not want to get the Bob & Joey thing again. I just have no personal info on the performance of the modded 17*. Good luck which ever way you go.

What are you trying to do to that poor sweet towing setup you have there?;)

3800 RPMS is pushing those valve springs abilty a bit don't ya think?

On the data log if you have it and recorded PW could you post it up with the tune that was running? Thanks

Well, you know how it is. I just got on it (without the trailer) one day and just happened to look at the tech as it was passing 3800 very quickly. I got out of it went home, changed drawers and emailed Jody @ dp and he said no worries. Don't think I'll do it again. 3800 with the trailer would be scarry fast. I have had it to 90mph with the trailer which is 13K loaded and that is a little unerving. Someone told me once the getting old doesn't mean you have to grow up. I guess I'm proof of that.

I don't have the sheet but can ask Nate if he has it. It was in Jody's 60T
