hey guys i have a 04 f-250 and i have put a different motor in the truck, the guy told me it was an 06 motor but im not sure,is there something like a motor id # on the motor or block that you can get and call ford to find out what year the motor is? Im not having a problem with head gaskets but was wondering if i should go ahead and replace the gaskets if im doing the head studs? which gasket is better oem or the black ones? any help

On the passenger side valve cover is an emissions sticker with the year of the engine. The engine serial number is stamped near the bottom of the drivers head at the rear by the firewall. With a mechanics mirror and if your flexible enough you should be able to read it. Highly recommend head studs but stick with OEM gaskets

Decking is basically milling the heads flat from end to end side to side with no low spots. There is a maximum amount of material you can remove before you need worry about valve clearance.
