I can feel the flames already lol, just bored and thought I would throw this out.

So if you have done a conversion in your Ford do you regret not having the PSD anymore? If so why?

How bout this, if you have done a conversion and have no regrets then why is it that you like it so much?

Because I can make 600hp + and not worry that every time I put it to the wood my freeze plugs are gonna fall out :poke::D

Also that I like to have something different. Everybody always said the perfect truck would be a Cummins in a Ford, and now I've got one :D.

Re: How may Cummins conversionee's feel regret?

When I think back & not too hard on how much I have spent on my 7.3's (plural) I could have put a Cummins in all had more power, more dependability & money left over!!
Wanted a 6 oh untill I went to work at a International dealer & I'm finished with that urge!
13 letter sh*t spredder!

If you use your trans...you need the flexplate and trans adaptor...~1500 bucks for those....motor mounts...~300 for those and a stand alone trans controller. Most use PCS and they retail ~2200 bucks I think.

Re: How may Cummins conversionee's feel regret?

PCS is less then 1k for the controller.

Adapter plate 795.00
Billet Flex plate 625.00
Motor mounts 250.00 for the CR mounts

Rest is just motor and parts you need to go with it.

Re: How may Cummins conversionee's feel regret?

Reason I started this thread was for all the people that have not done a conversion and try to talk others out of it for one reason or another, I.E. "its just as expensive to build a Cummins as it is a 7.3". Ask any person who has done the conversion and they will tell you its the best thing they have ever done.

7.3's are a great motor but after a certain point its just hard headedness to keep dumping that much money into them. I am a 7.3 guy and specialize in them but its stupid how easy it is for me to get 700+ hp out of my CR and in 4 months have gotten it to a level to nationaly compete in sledpulling all the while driving it everyday on the street.

Re: How may Cummins conversionee's feel regret?

hey bean long time no talk too. My 05 is doing great with my cummins. pull up a mountain and the water temp never moves and my EGT's never get even close to danger. Then to top it off I actually have gas mileage. A for has never heard of that. So I can really say that I have 0 Regrets.

Re: How may Cummins conversionee's feel regret?

Its the rev limiter, for somereason it sounds way worse then other CR's that ride the limiter not sure why. Makes it sound terrible but it pulls like a bastard. We will have that problem fixed soon though.

Bean, I'm still on the edge of what motor to put in my pull truck(1976 f-250). How much to stick a common rail in it.

Re: How may Cummins conversionee's feel regret?

Thats kind of a loaded question. There are so many variables its hard to put a close $ sign on it.

Accual converson parts, 1000-3000 depnding on what trans, motor etc.

Labor would be 5k+ depending on how custom one gets.

Re: How may Cummins conversionee's feel regret?

After building my PSD, part of me wishes I had chosen a different motor. I do like what I have done under the hood of my SD, but I also know that for the same amount of money I could have had one nasty DMAX.....

Bottom line when my motor blows it depends on how many parts go with it. If its beyond recovery from a cost standpoint, I'm going transplant.

All in all those who know me, know I like to do things the hard way. I like my PSD, and I think it is a good motor, aside from the injection system and the intake passageways in the head....

Re: How may Cummins conversionee's feel regret?

I am just about over the edge with these things and ther hyd. injectors (problems with big oil)about ready to take the plunge when cash allows and go to the dark side.
Mine just broke the block I am tempted to gather the stuff to swap it on over to the dark side. For now I will get another PSD to replace the broke b!tch in the truck now.

Re: How may Cummins conversionee's feel regret?

It makes me sad to hear that no one misses their psd. I read on here about built engines pullin and drag racing, its gives me hope that I can get my tuck dialed and be competitve in truck pulls. But a lot more guys that have built bad ass engines are swaping out. Is there not enough parts out there to stay on top? Is the chance a common rail or a full mechanical version just a dream? I dont know what to do, I got a lot of money tied up in my truck and I think that there is a lot more left in this engine.I just hope the technology keeps comming out so we can advance.
