Homemade Mini-Spring Pack Leveling Kit

Hey guys. Had this idea after hearing so many people bad-mouth the use of the mini-spring packs on ebay. But there's not much to these, and if some of them aren't even made of spring steel (if someone could explain the difference to me, I'd really appreciate it), what's stopping me from throwing some plates together drilling a hole through them, and slapping them under my spring? So I'm looking for reasons and answers to the following questions.

Is there any support added to the existing leafs by going with some official DR pack as opposed to an ebay spring pack? Do the ebay types (plate steel from what I've heard) have any arch to them at all? If not, and I could fab some up on my own, what thickness steel do they utilize? Thanks in advance. And to please all the professionals out there, the $100 saved from building them myself would be put towards an adjustable track bar. Looking forward to the info in the professionally done VS. home made spring pack debate that is to come.

Yeah, I can wait a while, and if you want to retake that picture, that'd be great too. If not, I understand the idea, I'd just like to see details of it put together. Thanks again for the help.
I'll get a pick of mine also for the heck of it.I Can't remember the shops name but they are a heavy duty truck repair shop and have the materials to make there own u bolts.I had them make some for my mud bogger once .I can not remeber the length but I had 2 6in blocks stacked and a stock 2in block in there so 14inches of block. It was in the rear of course and offroad only with ladder bars. Those cost me $70 bucks for 4.
dadozer - by the way, if you haven't gotten that measurement yet, could you throw a tape to your shortest cut leaf too. I just want to know the exact length plate I'm gonna need. Thanks again.

Here are some pics of my homemade lift. I built mine the same way as Dozer, except I used some leafs from an old truck spring for the top two plates. I also modified my trac bar by cutting it, sliding a steel tube over both ends and welding it in place to make it longer.

blackford - I sent you a pm.
The center bolt is 7/16 and the bottom leaf against the axle is 6" long then i went 2 inches longer each one going up. as for pictures my regular camera quality cant be adjusted down far enough, so i just have been using my cell phone. and also like i said before dont waste time drilling through the metal without a drill press it will take forever.
now i see what ill be doing, but seriously how is this that much diffrent then blocks in the front, it kinda seams like the same concept to me?

also, would it be a horribile idea to weld the "leafs" together (just like a 2 inch bead in the middle) to further conect/brace them?
In utah blocks in the front are illegal, so the stacked leafs is just a legal way to get around the block.
Could I get length U-bolts that I'll need for the front and rear? Front - I measured about 8 and 9 (with about 1" of thread showing), maybe, so I'm thinking they'll have to be about 12" long each. Are they round or semi-round? The rears are about 12" now (again about 1" threads showing) with a 2 5/8" block, so I'm thinking 15" for them? Could anyone get some length measurements of the U-bolts that I'd need and they'd be 3 5/8" width, right... Both axles are 3.5" wide and then a little more to clear them? Thanks again in advance.
Just get longer than you need. Will cost the same. Then just take a grinder with a cutoff wheel and cut to length. No guessing.
Bump - Still need to know what dimensions I'm looking for. Thanks.
black ford could you post a new pic of your setup im very intersested
Hey guys i know this thread is reeeallllly old, but i have a question ive been looking for an answer for awhile.

few weeks ago i built block (6-1/4" steel plates welded together with a pin through it) and the passenger side went well, but when i put the driver side together, the sway bar was hitting my pumpkin on the front axle. i havent seen anybody thats done this "block lift" complain about this. im prolly gonna take my end link off, lengthen and sleeve them so the pitch is the same as it was stock. did anybody experience this problem?? thanks in advance

BTW its a 2003 F250 Diesel. completely stock... for now.
How come no one likes the ebay kits? just because they are not made of spring steal or what? they are nice and cheap and do not look like they are machined too bad. I was going to get one off ebay unless someone can change my mind. 99 bucks is a way better price than some of the other mini spring packs out

I actually looked into that one as well. I talked to a place called custom diesel from tennessee yesterday who sells pretty much the same thing as maxx-lift for 30 bucks cheaper. i called them and they have a website so they sound pretty legit. Some places i call from ebay and they never answer so i cant go with them. I have called maxx-lift and emailed them and they get back to me too. this custom diesel has sold over 60 of there 2.7 inch leveling kits also. i am just curious if i can take a leaf out of the pack if I had too because i do not want my front end higher than the rear and do not want to get 350 blocks.
i run maxx lift as well. the owner i believe is from Louisiana and is super nice. my payment didnt go through paypal as it should have which was my fault. he felt bad and sent me a free t-shirt. free tailgate emblem, and overnight shipped and i didnt ask him to. he just said " Hey since this was wats wrong ill do this for you" i said sweet and i was on my way. i will defineatly go with them again
Can I take a leaf out of that pack if I had too because I have an f250 and do not want the front higher than the back. Also, do not want to get bigger rear blocks. Did you get an adjustable trac bar because i do not think I was going to. If anything I might just cut it and add a sleeve in there if my axle is off.
yes you can take a leaf out of the pack. you can add as many or as little as they give you. and no i did not get an adjustable track bar. but. i do want one. with my truck up its almost an inch off. i had to ratchet strap the axle over in order to do it.
