looking at making a regulated fuel return but need to know how much to reduce the return

wish it was as easy as throwin a washer it the return line like on other applications

just got free usage of a cnc machine so back to homemade parts it is for me hopefully

I assume by your question, you don't want to use a regulator. You want to put a restrictor orifice in line to produce the proper back pressure. Am I accurate?

If that is the case, then better to start off by stating that it simply will not work.

The fuel demand varies, so the flow through the return line will as well if constant pressure is to be maintained at the injectors and constant flow is to be maintained from the pump.

Or were you trying to size the return line?

If cheap is your objective, use a regulator off an OBS truck.

No it will work or no one would be selling them

Not to start a debate but a regulated return means you are regulating the RETURN line :shrug:right:shrug:

I doubt you'll get any worth while responses because most people probably have just purchased some kind of reulator, rather than reinventing the wheel.

I think my fuel system is gonna be pretty original :D

I don't care if it's original though, I want what works.

If I'm reading this right, you are trying to control pressure simply with the sizing of the return line to the tank? That won't work, plain and simple. You need a pressure regulator, something that can "respond" to changes in fuel pressure when fuel demand changes. Using restricted return lines would provide you with a fixed volume return that won't change to respond to increases or decreases in rail pressure during high or low demand conditions.

I think he was talking about the guy using restrictors instead of a regulator at all. It works if you keep the stock system in place, its simple. I would go another route if I were to spend the time on messing with it though.

l guess thats what im gonna end up doing myself since it wouldnt be worth the time and effort

You pretty much answered my question about regulating the fuel but what i was lookin at was buildin my own regulator (PITA) when i got down to it
It is easyer to do modifications to marine applications!!!
i will just buy one instead since the lines would cost me more to have made then it would be worth

Yeah the bailing twine wrapped around the rubber hose worked pretty good for you before. You want more pressure just twist the twine tighter!:D

Hey deer maybe you should know what you're talking about before you open your trap. Nothing "tied" up about it. ;)

slowleak, for what some of those hotwheels from back when I was a kid are worth I don't think that's a very intellegent comment. Especially with how big they've become with the older street rod croud. But I guess you're ritght. Those 50 and 60 year olds do need to grow up.
