Hey guys how long do I have to let my truck run before I can engage Hi Idle? Winter is here once again but it's not freezing so the stock high idle won't engage. I have a 1100rpm high idle on my DP Tuner (Thanks Jody) & just wonder if there is a given time frame as to when I can safely use it.

I thought the F5 paperwork said the engine has to be at full or almost full operating temp.
Where's Diane, she would know.

Good question, I've often wondered myself and to be honest, only used it (including all other settings) when the truck has been up to OP temp.;)

If it has to be at full temp before using it, how come you can drive before your motor is at full temp?

That's what I have been wondering?
I guess it's for if you have a winch or something. I know Diane said that they made a high idle for a welding truck once & set it at 2100rpm because the welder drew so much juice! That would really be fun if it popped into gear!

I actually talked to Diane today and FINALLY I ordered my chip! I asked about the high idle, she said its mostly used to warm up the truck or during summer just the opposite to keep you cool! She also said start it in stock, let it get the fluids flowing (oil to the injectors... ect.) around and you should be able to move it to high idle. not sure if that helps, but can't exacly remember how she worded it.

fwiw

on the 05+ 6.0s the ford BCP/SEIC just needs to be connected to an upfitter - switch it on in park w/ e-brake on and it goes on... no parameters on idle
waiting for the truck to warm completely would almost defeat the purpose????

Ultimately if it had to be up to OP temp, the factory hi-idle wouldnt work as it does. I wait till its warm before using the chip period.

I unplugged the high idle on my IDI because I don't like the way it work. When you push on the accelator it trips a solonoid & sets the idle at 900rpms or so. Then it won't kick out untill it feels that it's warmed up. so as your driving it lightly comeing up to a stop sign it still wants to roll. You might as well be brake torqueing it! I will plug it back in soon since the weather is getting cooler.

My Ma always starts & stops her's in stock. I guess it's better for the injectors & better in the cold weather.
Since turning up my IDI injector pump it's always fun when you start it on a cold day! :D Can't detune that one every morning!
