My truck broke down today for no apparent reason. its a 2001 f-250 superduty 7.3L with only 65,000miles on it. well taken care of. nothing after market except afe stage 2 air intake.
No check engine lights are on. all it will do is turn over. we replaced the fuel filter, (which was dirty as hell). when we put the new filter in it started for a little while and then died suddenly as if someone turned the key off. so we took the filter off again and drained the fuel out of the filter bowl, and check to see that diesel was flowing, which it was. then we put the filter back in and it started again and died. same senario! during this period the check engine light came on once and went off. Dont know much about diesels, and deffinatly dont wanna take to the dealer.

Could it be bad injectors? If so i upgrading. :ford:

I could use some info.

If you need to know any additional information just ask. and thanks!

No problem. I would lay money that's your problem. Not the ONLY thing it could be of course, but by far the most common with the symptoms you described.

Pick one up and be sure to let us know when you get er smokin again. :redspotdance:

I didn't think so because he said fuel was flowing.

Def could be though. If you have a gauge you can put it on and see what pressures are. They will usually run or at least try to with very little fuel pressure though.

When mine died it was still pumping, just not enought to keep running above 1300 RPM's... I think the 100 miles I drove like that is what killed my stockers... Its also what started me down the long road of being a gauge whore...:D

Good chance it is.

Also when you said the fuel filter was really dirty, was there a bunch of solid particles in there or was it really dark and murky looking fuel?

Dark colored fuel is a sign of oil getting into the fuel due to leaking injector o-rings. That is a possibility for not wanting to idle also.

Best bet would be to get a scanner hooked to it to watch ICP and IPR duty cycle. Less guessing and quicker fix.
